- Gerhard Huber added a new meal Lunch at Saihokutan at Saihokutan
Most northern ramen shop in Japan. Family business serving a range of casual food. Interesting ramen version Mozuku ramen with lots of mozuku (a type of seaweed) in it. The pictures hides the noodles, thin and curly, cooked al dente.

Local place, in business for almost 50 years. The Taisho is brutally honest about the quality of the ingredients which in his view are not good in July. However he still manages to give you some soldi sushi. The untreated Uni is of course excellent and we cleaned up whatever was left of this day’s supply.

His tempura and karage was also very tasty with the corn and mushroom being the upstanding pieces. Less

Remote Soba shop. That is all they have besides rice. They grow their own next door.

A couple went on their honeymoon to Hokkaido, felt in love with it and decided to move there. As one would, the guy bought himself a book how to build a log house and started it by himself while working as a guide for kayaking and canoeing.
Fast forward 10 years and he can open up his restaurant as a self taught cook in his self built log house.

And the food is actually good! Carpaccio of cuttlefish, a stunning rillettes, a zucchini gratin and some excellent Parma ham. The pizza dough more Rome than Naples and the spaghetti rich and full of umami. The cheese cake is a deliberate half way between a baked version and the now super fashionable Basque burnt versions. Half the cream cheese in there and baked at a lower temperature. Great stuff.
The wine list is a shelf with empty bottles on which the price is written. All Italian wine and of course on the eve of the Italian wine at the European Football Championship I had to drink a Barolo.
All of this for nothing. So cheap it almost feels like a gift. Less

Vegetables are the star here, irregardless of any protein which gets served with them. And even more so in the summer. Some of those dishes are as goods as it gets. All of the vegetables are coming from the garden right next door and are perfectly cooked. The Phở gà was made with dashi from goat meat and had some of it in it. A great dish.

What a delight and always worth the hike to Wakayama. Less

Beautiful restaurant with even more beautiful dishes from Limoges in France.
Classic French cuisine, but at the same time light with sparse use of butter.
The Canadian lobster dish was the highlight of the meal, its texture prefect, and the sauce adding a wonderful echo of the sea to it.

The king of dumplings. High over Meran, with a wonderful view. The food and hospitality is unique.
