LURRA Kyoto, 1 Michelin star — located in a renovated traditional machiya in Sanjo; Noma trained chef, very foreigner friendly. No gas used here, dishes are cooked using fire wood. The meal was largely pescatarian except for the prosciutto. Dishes were generally well prepared but flavoring was a bit off for some. Natural wine pairing, some interesting bottles but not many options. I was slightly unsatisfied with both food and wine. •

Scandinavian influenced innovative cuisine in Kyoto. There were some nice ingredients for early fall and well thought out combination of flavours. Beautiful counter seating and fun service. Chef worked at Noma before but I felt that he has created his own distinct style. Its nice to find these kinds of places popping up, especially in a place like Kyoto.

Nordic experience in Kyoto. Three guys, either Japanese or half Japanese, worked together in a restaurant in New Zealand. When this places closed they decided to move to Kyoto and set up shop there.
The head chef worked at Noma and one can see the Noma DNA in the food. A lot of foraging, fermentation and very complicated dishes. Carrots which have been processed in one way or another four times to create a reduced taste and texture. Very un Japanese where the ingredient speaks for itself.
