The master of beef tongue and offals.
Sumibi Yakiniku Nakahara
炭火焼肉なかはら
Far too long since my last visit. Nakahara-san is a fantastic host in addition to a grill master. The beef is superlative. What else do you need?
Also, really enjoyed the shift away from fusion elements and towards the classic style.
Quick meal with local chefs.at Nakahara. Excellent as always when the Master himself grills for you.
Back to the master for more cuts of tongue and ofals.
Kentaro completely renovated his restaurant, he extended the counter to seat now up to 11 people and changed the decor of the tables and the private room. A great job. Light wood dominates now the atmosphere which looked a little date before.
His food is still one of the best yakiniku in Tokyo. His cuts of tongue and his famous sando being the reference point for many other places in the country.
The one and only, the first and still the best Gyu Katsu Sando in town.
I just picked Kentaro-san up to go to a sushi place after work, but I had to eat it, there was no way I would not. 😂
Back at the master for wagyu tongue, offals and sando. Unique, great taste and hospitality.
Wagyu Course: Gyu tongue, tip/bottom of tongue, sirloin, hanger steak, brisket, rump, intestines, somen, gyukatsu sando, gyudon+gyukatsu curry, pistachio ice cream 🍛🐂

Back at Masterchef Kentaro for another fix of meat.
Back at the master for charcoal and wagyu tongue grilling. And besides being a master chef, he is a very humble and friendly person. His menu evolved over time and took almost the shape of a sushi omakase meal. He alternates between pieces of beef and other foods so one does not get overloaded with beef. Nevertheless no carnivore will get home unsatisfied.

This years best dishes list has been a tough one to compile and with so many restaurants visited I have found it impossible to cull down to less than 70 dishes that really stood out for me this year.
2018 has been a busy year. 27 countries visited, one of which I managed to walk across when completing the Camino De Santiago earlier in the year. With the benefit of hindsight I kind of wish I was starting that walk tomorrow in order to try and take off the pounds that I have piled on this year having had 217 destination meals in total, including 73 Michelin one stars, 43 two stars and 20 three stars as well as all the other new or more casual places or restaurants that are in regions or countries not yet included in the Michelin guide (these figures include restaurants that I visited more than once). While I have attempted to put the dishes in an order of preference, please don’t read too much into that. There is very little difference in terms of amazingness between #1 and #71.
Please feel free to leave any comments you may have or mistakes that you spot🙏🏻 As I have said before, its more about the people I meet along the way and the new friends I have made. So with that in mind I wish you all a happy new year and here are my best 71 dishes of 2018.
