A new wine-focused high end bistro in Toranomon, Tokyo, called @_araratrestaurant. Photos here are from two different visits. Owner/Sommelier Higashihara-san has built a really special place. Tiny, with only four tables, it’s a beautiful space. The course menu is an excellent value, as are the wines. The classic, focused cooking really scratched an itch for me - no fusion, no over-complication – just delicious. Highly recommended.

Ararat 1st visit — the restaurant calls itself a bistro but the interior is quite fancy and food very refined. Favorite was the white asparagus with poached Oita egg, the yolk was so red that it looked like blood. Great wine list too. •
