This places will remain one of my top Kaiseki places in Japan. The skill of Maeda San is extraordinary, his flavor profile so prefect that I think he could serve me recycled plastic and make me love it.

Every dish has some added acidity in a very subtle way which changes the flavor without overpowering the core ingredient. It takes a fine calibrated palate to always hit exactly the right amount. He thus creates a very modern taste profile without loosing the tradition of a Kyoto Kaiseki meal.

- Gerhard Huber added a new meal Dinner at Menya Shono at Menya Shono (麺や 庄の)
Modern tonkotsu gyokai ramen. Noodles are homemade. I went for the full program adding extra chashu, boiled gyozas and negi rice to the menu.
The soup is thick but not too concentrated, full of umami and really tasty.
This shop serves monthly special ramen which get only served for four weeks. As this was my first visit I went for the flagship ramen.... More

I had to do it and try this chain of curry. And as expected not bad at all. A full meal for less than €10.

- Gerhard Huber added a new meal Dinner at SAVOY 麻布十番店 at Savoy
Because of a mix up with the reservation we ended up in Savoy ( Azubujuban branch). They offer there the more exotic version of their pizzas which we naturally ordered.
The dough is the same, super high heat and very short time on the oven. The crust is doughy and crispy at the same time, the beef and the tuna topping tested actually very well. Not... More

Second meal at Villa Aida, this time with the fall menu. Root vegetables, mushrooms and more protein than the August menu. Based on these two meals I think that they really shine on the vegetables. Fresh summer vegetables or fall root vegetables, no difference they are always incredibly tasty, well seasoned and perfectly cooked. This time we were more people and thus could indulge more on the super interesting wine list as the photo of the wines attest too. This is worth a trip. And while there one can eat the famous Wakayama ramen too. Less
