Dinner at famous Lyonnaise institution, ⭐️⭐️ La Mère Brazier. I loved it, and it was one of the highlights of last year’s tour for me. I had heard mixed reports with people absolutely adoring it and others having a terrible time. Once I broke through the snootiness of some of the waiting staff with my winning smile, I had a blast 😃. Apart from one horrific dessert that I still wake up screaming about in the middle of the night (I remember bananas and seaweed), the food was excellent, with a couple of truly incredible dishes that did appear in my end of year best dishes list. Highly recommended (but steer clear of the seaweed a la banane 🙅🏻)

Lunch at ⭐️⭐️ Takao Takano in Lyon. I much preferred this meal to Le Neuvième Art, and was happily surprised that the flavours were so bold. In my mind I was expecting quite delicate and understated dishes similar I guess in style to Alliance in Paris (excellent). There is no logic really to why I would think that these two Japanese chefs would cook in the same style of course. Anyway, it was a perfectly nice lunch and I would probably seek it out again if I was in Lyon

It is of course a very classical restaurant, which isn’t necessarily what pushes my buttons, but if you are in the area and are passionate about food then it really is a must visit for dishes like the truffle soup, created in my birth year (in, not because of 😐) for the then French president

My first meal on the French leg of a tour I organised last year was at ⭐️⭐️⭐️ Troisgros. The plan was to drive from here to Lech over a couple of weeks, pinballing between amazing restaurants and amazing people along the way. Troisgros has been on my bucket list for ages, so I was glad to be able to slot it into the schedule. From humble beginnings in 1930 in Roanne, this restaurant has had generations of the Troisgros family behind the stoves and now the restaurant exists in a beautiful farm house just 8km from it’s original location. I believe that they have held three Michelin stars since 1968 which is an incredible achievement.
The dining room is magnificent, and designed in such a way as to give the impression that you are sitting in the surrounding gardens and woods. The food was good, starting very strong and also ending with a truly fantastic dessert, and you can definitely see the influences from the younger generation of the Troisgros family’s travels around the world before settling here. I’m glad I went, and also glad I stayed in their beautiful rooms.

A truly unique restaurant in London and probably my favourite, or at least one of them. I have fond memories of meals here back when @nunoviajante Nuno Mendes was rattling the pans, of collaborations with Gareth Ward and the @ynyshirrestaurant team and of course with the hugely talented @edoardopellicano . I’m excited to see what Edoardo will bring to the Singapore dining scene this year and wish him and the team my best wishes. I’ll be jumping on a plane to dine at his new venture as soon as it opens.
