Right when we landed in Singapore, we went straight to Hill Street Tai Hwa Pork Noodle and made it 15 minutes before closing. Luckily, we were the last customers they served before selling out. This hawker stall is one of the new 1* Michelin in Singapore. It was founded by Tang Joon Teo, who operated at Hill Street since in the 1930s. The late Mr Tang died in 1995 at the age of 89, and left the business to his three sons.

We ordered 2 bowls of Gan Mian - noodles tossed in a savory vinegary sauce, filled with tender pork and liver slices, minced pork, dumplings, and a sprinkling of fried sole fish. Delicious!

Abou Shakra started off as a single shop back in 1947 and is now a franchise with locations all over Egypt, Saudi Arabia, and Kuwait. The one we went to is located right across from the Sphinx entrance at the Great Pyramids. They have a second floor where you can see a nice view of the pyramids.

We discovered this hole-in-the-wall by pure coincidence just from walking around our hotel on Allenby St in search of food. This place is always packed with locals throughout all hours of the day until they close at 2 AM. There's only 1 thing to order - simple, yet sensational, charcoal grilled protein options (kebabs, chicken, housemade sausage, and spicy veal heart) in pita bread with salad, hot peppers, grilled onions, and tahini. If we were locals, we would come here all the time.
