What makes Çiya Sofrası unique is that Mr. Dağdeviren isn’t just a Chef, but also a culinary anthropologist. Collecting recipes from all over Turkey, he frequently offers unusual regional dishes that you won’t find anywhere else. Because he offers different dishes daily, there’s no actual menu. The daily changing food takes diners on a journey through traditional regional dishes from Anatolia to Mesopotamia, many of which are in danger of extinction. You just point out whichever dish catches your eye and they’ll bring a serving to your table.

Nusret Gökçe, aka “Salt Bae”, became an Internet meme for his technique in preparing and seasoning meat. He is a Turkish butcher, chef, and restaurateur who owns Nusr-Et, a chain of steak houses across the world that opened in 2010. Since we’re in Istanbul, we decided to try the original shop. It’s a meatlover’s paradise with a wide selection, and all the protein is from the Maramra region. We ordered the Nusr-Et Special, a zone beef fillet with melted butter and sea salt, that was prepared tableside. Despite the hype, it was actually quite tasty! 🥩

A short layover in Lisbon has brought us to 2-Michelin starred Alma - Chef Henrique Sá Pessoa. This restaurant is, without a doubt, one of the top places to dine in Portugal. Every dish was a hit, served in a sequence that was well-paced and kept us wanting more. Highly recommend having a meal here when in town!

Started by Aimo and Nadia Moroni in 1962 as a simple trattoria, Il Luogo di Aimo e Nadia has become one of the most revered restaurants in town with 2 Michelin Stars. Their daughter Stefania is now at the helm of Il Luogo, alongside Chefs Fabio Pisani and Alessandro Negrini as they continue on 50+ years of excellence.

The focus of the kitchen has always been on top-quality ingredients and it clearly showed from the first bite until the last. As this is our first visit to the restaurant, we ordered the famous classic Italian dishes a la carte. It was perfect! Simple and delicious, yet very memorable.

Dinner at Trippa in Milan was hands down one of the best trattorias we’ve ever had the pleasure of eating (even the Michelin Guide called it one of the best trattorias in Italy). Chef Diego Rossi is a genius. The menu is short and simple with a few choices for appetizer, first course and main. All the dishes were perfectly executed with high quality ingredients. It felt like we were eating home-cooked, seasonal food. When in Milan, we highly recommend a visit to Trippa for a perfect casual dinner.
