- Justin Hurst added a new meal Dinner at 焼肉たつみ at 焼肉たつみ
The beefiest day of my life. I often dine alone, so Yakinuku isn’t always a possibility. I was lucky enough to get invited to a special group lunch in Osaka where I’m pretty sure we ate every part of the cow, except the horns. Great quality meat, cool old-school shop.

- Justin Hurst added a new meal Dinner at Villa AiDA at Villa Aida (ヴィラ・アイーダ)
Villa Aida, Wakayama, February. They certainly have a way with vegetables. The fennel/squid dish blew me away. Also, a very strong natural wine list with an Italian and Japanese angle. A worthy destination. Thank you again, @villa_aida_wakayama @kanjikobayashi

- Justin Hurst added a new meal Dinner at YAKITORI燃es at YAKITORI Moe es
A new entrant in the burgeoning “fancy Yakitori tasting menu” genre, @yakitori_moees is off to a strong start. A great mix of excellent grilling, creative dishes, and ramen to finish. All Japanese wine list as well, which is a treat (if you haven’t tried it lately, there’s a lot of great stuff happening).

A very creative and promising new restaurant in Ginza, @ginza_yuzan. A very creative and promising new restaurant in Ginza, @ginza_yuzan. The premise is California meets Japan, and as a native of the former and a resident of the latter, it’s a really nice combination for me. So many successful places in CA (and NY, and Paris, and…) have taken Japanese ingredients, styles, and culture into their food. It’s great to see the reverse — the sort of borderless, vegetable heavy flavors you might find in SF or LA, but recontextualized into a Japanese tasting menu format.
Definitely one to watch. Less

- Justin Hurst added a new meal Dinner at スガラボ at SUGALABO (SUGALABO)
Sugalabo, February. Excellent, as always. Impeccable ingredients, perfect technique. @yosuke_suga is indisputably a master.
Great wine pairings as well, including Chave Hermitage by the glass - always a treat.

Interesting concept - an underground (literally and somewhat figuratively as well) ramen-based course menu. Started with a bit of an education on dashi, with and without soy added. A few tasty dishes followed, then an excellent bowl of ramen. Apparently each time you visit, you get a totally different ramen. Only way to try them all is to keep going...... More

Sushi Saito, February. Excellent visit. I generally don’t take nigiri pictures, but that uni deserved it.

- Justin Hurst added a new meal Dinner at 曙橋 まる富 at Kagurazaka Marutomi
A really lovey little kaiseki dinner at Marutomi in Shinjuku-ku, in February. Early bamboo shoots and excellent beef were highlights. Quite reasonable as well.
