Yakitori Imai 焼鳥今井 1st visit — loved the modern and spacious interior. A few skewers were slightly dry but overall good quality and decent wine list. The chicken shirako was interesting and the oyakodon at the end was very satisfying. •

When it came time to decide where to eat on my first birthday in Tokyo, it was a very tough choice. But in the end, it had to be @yakitoriimai. Always delicious, and a place of many auspicious meetings for me. They did a wonderful job, as usual.

A fantastic visit to @yakitoriimai right after they reopened. It’s like a whole new restaurant. All the things I loved before, but even better. Doing some interesting things I’ve never seen before, like rice straw in the charcoal right before cooking quail eggs, for a puff of delicious smoke. As always, my highest recommendation.

So good to be back in Tokyo, for perhaps the last visit until I move here. As always, @yakitoriimai is my first stop. Excellent chicken, beautiful vegetables, surprises like French duck, and a short but brilliant wine list.

Yakitori Imai, my favorite “welcome back to Tokyo” tradition, rocked my mouth again tonight. Early season bamboo shoots, signature fruit tomato, liver paste on baguette, and many more — all chased down with some epic Champagne. I only wish my Japanese was better so I could converse more, though they try their best and go above and beyond to take care of me. @yakitoriimai is a master, and his restaurant is a must-go.
