Epic DRC dinner, WOTN: 71 Echezeaux & 89 GE. The 71 was fresh and vibrant, showed a lot younger than the 72 GE in the same flight. Rich and sweet red fruit, elegant spices with sous bois nuances and underlying mineral tension. This perfect drinking stage could last for another 5-10 years. 89 GE is a lot more intense, robust and dark fruit dominant.... More
Epic DRC dinner, WOTN: 71 Echezeaux & 89 GE. The 71 was fresh and vibrant, showed a lot younger than the 72 GE in the same flight. Rich and sweet red fruit, elegant spices with sous bois nuances and underlying mineral tension. This perfect drinking stage could last for another 5-10 years. 89 GE is a lot more intense, robust and dark fruit dominant. Just moved past its primary stage, showing some earthy savory characters. It’s powerful but not lacking precision and finesse. A solid wine just entering drinking window which will last for decades.

Had a 14 Bruno Clair Vergy Blanc the day before which was surprisingly concentrated and complex with hint of oxidative notes, unfortunately this 11 was quite simple and thin. 12 Deiss Schoenenburg was rich, ripe and powerful. 99 Beaucastel was quite advanced. All 3 reds showed well.

The 17 Martray CC on the other hand, was fresh, pure and zesty. Precise structure and minerally texture, especially for a Corton. A decade of cellaring would definitely be rewarding.
