For crab season a couple of months ago. One of the best preparations of 間人ガニ you can get in Japan, especially during the right season. This was quite early in the season so it was not there but we couldn't complain whilst having some nice matsutakes to feast on. Consistently top for food, crab season is really the best time to go at its peak.

I seem to perpetually be stuck with late posting, but this was from winter season at Matsukawa. Crabs were on top form as expected, but all dishes were delicious. The bachiko, karasumi and shirasu rice were on point for me.. solid flavours from the highest quality products respectively whilst keeping it straight forward and simple.

Taiza crab feast
間人ガニ

12月の「松川」は、恒例の間人ガニの宴。香箱蟹、焼きガニ、真丈のお椀、香箱蟹の紹興酒漬けと頂いたが、特に印象に残ったのが、カニの昆布締め。鮮度では産地に勝てない分、距離のハンディキャップを補う創意工夫が素晴らしい。

A few highlights from a restaurant I’ve spent years trying to get in to. Matsukawa was elegant, restrained, simple, and with impeccable service. Ceramics were gorgeous and often quite notable and/or old. Flavors were subtle and refined. I’d definitely like to go back again, if I can get in, outside of crab season to see what they can do with “normal” ingredients.
