I have not felt so full in my life ever. There was an excessive amount of food... probably a bad idea since it was coupled with no wine that day... the quality of the wagyu from Kyushu is high, but purely based on quantity, I couldn't quite appreciate it.

High quality beef in a cozy place that seats around 10 in the main dining room with some private rooms on the side. Focused on an array of wines also... service was the highlight, but the menu was diverse enough with a few outperforming dishes that kept me happy through the meal. Recommend choosing a mix of wagyu and non also for a good balance.

The result is an outstanding meal that perhaps pushes my limits for duration, clocking in a just over 5 hours for dinner. High quality execution at the theatre-esque counter which seats just 6 pax a day. Essential binchotan grill, comfortable atmosphere... though the 6am golf the next day was probably ill-timed. Well worth the trip.. .

Some casual drinking wines with yakiniku. We started with the 2013 Leflaive Meursault 1er, which showed some advanced flavours but ripe fruit, macerated white flowers and oak dominant. Coche reds are always a bit of a mix bag.. if I'm not mistaken, the final vintage that Coche released for this wine.. not sure what happened to it after though. Fruity tootie nose with bright red berries and vanilla but the palate was rather uninteresting. Whites are definitely preferred. The simple 2012 Claude Dugat village was the winner for the night... very distinctly Claude Dugat.. meaty, robust and earthy with a plum and cherry core. Decent acidity and structure.

If your answer is yes to all of these... this is the place to go... very few Japanese restaurants can understand spice as much as this place. And as ghetto as this restaurant is, one can't help to respect how well balanced the dishes are, but yet how spicy each dish gradually becomes. Make sure you ask for small size for the rice, otherwise be prepared for the reckoning. So good but so dangerous at the same time.

1906 Patriarche Pere et Fils Charmes Chambertin. I have only tried this vintage 3 or 4 times in my life but it is one of my favourite vintages of the 20th century... every bottle I have had has really been close to the event horizon. Climate characteristics were supposedly close to perfection, resulting in wines which have an incredible ability to age. This bottle was no exception... one of the top somms in Japan blind tasted this as a 1980s wine. A bit of bricking on the edges only, but a nice deep ruby color tone. Nose of dried rose petals, dark cherries, plum, earth, autumnal leaves, sweet spice and smoke... wafting aroma that just fills the room. Palate is surprisingly structured.. plum, blackberry core with a nice array of game, tobacco, earthy tones and Asian spices. Nice mid palate with a lingering finish.. beautiful beautiful bottle that is drinking extremely well, reinforcing my view to buy any 1906s you come across.
