関谷さんがこのお店の料理長になられてから、初めて伺いました。メニューに変更があるかと思いましたが、お店の全体的な方針は変わっていなかったのでよかったです。看板メニューは健在で、前回来たときよりも美味しくなっていると思いました。
リゾットは完璧に調理されており、チーズのクリーミーさとうま味のバランスがとれていた。鴨肉もとても美味しかったです。ボリュームがあるので、2人で1羽をシェアすることになりましたが、味はソフトで濃厚でした。

A nice day trip out there with friends, especially if you take over the 6 seats at the counter.

Contender for wine of the year already and definitely top 3 of the past 3 years. Most of the Musigny from Faiveley I have had to date are excellent, but shockingly young... and I have never had a lot of chance to find full appreciation for this wine.. until now. Stunning floral bouquet, cranberries, cherries and strawberries galore that is both as expressive and yet restrained at times. Palate is similarly gorgeous, with good acidity and purity. That length and concentration on the finish is like few others I have tasted. End game sorcery here... boom

Consistently great meals here, this one from a few months back. Shirako and crab were on top form and the atmosphere was better than I remembered it. The thinly sliced awabi cuts in the soup were nicely balanced with the mellow dashi. Fine execution and one of the best meals I have had here.

It has been a long, long time since I drank Penfolds, let alone Grange. The 1992 was a well made wine, with Syrah having found its integration with age. Not the most straight forward to guess in a blind taste, but the menthol, black currant and dark plum characters sat atop a wall of new oak. I concluded that this was just too young to drink and perhaps in need of further mellowing. 1993 showed more oxidation and it was indeed not the most pristine bottle and the Cabernet characters were more dominant. Palate showed a lot cleaner than the nose and the madeirisation kind of come and went. More stewed plum, dark cherry, spice and earth. Maybe could have blown off, but we drank everything a bit too quickly.

An old school Kyoto style kaiseki shop in Toranomon. I've often seen mention of it but I have been a little bit reluctant to try it given the price points. Course menus start at around 50k and it isn't super clear what the difference is between the menus. We chose the middle menu, which seemed to offer some manageable expectations.. food is of a high standard, with some top quality ingredients such as shirako and crabs from fukui... a lot of chefs seem to visit this place late at night, and while I liked the place in general, marginal utility was almost non existent. To top it off, seems that the only difference against the menu that is 20k less was the duck.... which was also fantastic... but that's a ducking expensive duck. Definitely good to check it out as the chef definitely has skills in prepping.

Good service even though they got my wine order wrong and chose the (much more) expensive bottle. Worth a hike if you haven't been before.
