An amazing lunch at Itadaku. This restaurant on Al Wasl road in Jumeirah 1 is without a doubt the most authentic Japanese that I’ve been to in Dubai so far. The menu features a few key sections from sushi and sashimi, to robata, tempura, yoshoku and unagi. It’s a menu that adapts with the seasons and so you can expect lots of ultra fresh seafood and vegetables with new dishes appearing each time you visit. I loved the uni and amaebi kodon - the sweet shrimp were so delicate and tender with a hint of crunch. The bafun uni was cold and creamy, sweet and earthy. Warm sushi rice underneath and just a hint of wasabi and soy over the top - perfection. The unagi kabayaki here is special. Nowhere really does this in Dubai and it’s worth going just for this. The grilled freshwater eel is brushed with sweet soy and served over warm rice. It’s so flaky and flavoursome - the glaze was rich, sticky and had a lovely shine to it. Miso soup was great - really hearty and with so much depth. Their Robata is a must - I went for the yakitori momo which was incredible, had to order another portion. Super juicy and perfectly charred / glazed. Tempura uni was v good. Had this at tempura kondo in Tokyo earlier this year and these guys really did it well too. So much on the menu here.. tried to have a little bit of it all. My only reservation with the sushi was the nigiri. They use LOTS of rice and the nigiri are a little too big for my liking. Taste wise, solid, rice was good too, but size wise, not quite right imo. Definitely a spot to visit. Will be back soon to scour through the rest of the menu! Their Hokkaido milk soft serve is a MUST #notoriousfoodie 🙅🏽♂️

I have a few favourite dishes in Dubai and this is one of them. The calamari Mozambique is just so tasty. 250g of flame grilled calamari and squids heads, lemon butter, peri-peri sauce, tarragon, roasted cherry tomatoes and a mountain of crispy shoestring fries. It’s mixed together table side so that each forkful gives you the crunch, sauce and calamari all together. The sauce is rich and creamy, gently spiced and infused with fresh tarragon. You need to have this with their green chilli sauce on the side so when you go, make sure to order it. Never get bored of this plate. The food here is consistent and fresh - a lovely menu with a bit of everything. Solid for lunch and dinner #notoriousfoodie 🙅🏽♂️

Nestled in the Museum of Islamic Art, IDAM by Alain Ducasse is one of Doha’s only Michelin Starred restaurants. Classical French cuisine with Arabian touches and local ingredients at the forefront. The restaurant itself, designed by Philippe Starck is beautiful. Ultra high ceilings and incredible views over Doha Bay. Each course was intricately plated and well thought out. My favourites were the confit beetroot with smoked jus, isigny cream and caviar and the smoked camel milk sorbet with Laban and citrus. I don’t usually love beets but this plate was lovely - sweet, soft and earthy beetroot with the most rich and flavoursome jus. The caviar and cream worked wonders here. The duck was also beautifully prepared - served with tiny agnolotti of confit duck and a glossy duck jus across the top. I thought they would have got 2 stars to be honest.. only a matter of time imo. If you’re visiting Doha, this spot is definitely worth a visit - insane value for this level of cooking, service and ingredients. Don’t skip tea and coffee after you eat.. #notoriousfoodie 🙅🏽♂️

One of only a few authentic omakase restaurants in Dubai. Hōseki has maintained its 1 Michelin star for the last 3 years and is led by Masahiro Sugiyama. The restaurant takes up most of the 4th floor at the hotel and with only 9 seats, it’s a got a really intimate vibe. Most of the ingredients are flown in daily from Japan, so you can expect the very best produce worked into every course. Sugiyama-san’s control over the temperature of the shari is really spot on. Perfectly warm grains of rice that are well seasoned and just melt on the tongue. Loved the days selection of fish - lots of variety. The ika was buttery soft, not the usual bite that I like but a totally different, velvety texture to it. Seasoned only with sea salt and wasabi. So delicious. Lots of tuna this evening. He served a starter of Kama-toro with Japanese greens with was just amazing. The Kama-toro is rarest part of the tuna as it makes up just a few % of the fish in weight. It’s from the cheek and is ridiculously marbled and fatty. More mature in flavour and melt in the mouth than your typical otoro. So tasty. The Hokkaido bafun uni was sweet and almost earthy in flavour. Nice and cold with such a creamy texture. Loved it. All of the courses here were great. For the price though, I don’t know, it’s like double to triple some of the best omakase restaurants in London - but there’s no denying the quality. It’s great sushi and the small plates were intricate and really well thought out! #notoriousfoodie 🙅🏽♂️

It’s the first restaurant in the region serving authentic Basque cuisine and man is it good. Jara is really making its mark on the scene here. The restaurant, led by @martinberasategui (who has 12 Michelin Stars to his name) and @javi.malillos - offers some of the best produce you can find in Dubai. Much of the seafood arrives daily from San Sebastián and you won’t get this quality of txuleta beef anywhere else in the region. In terms of beef, the txuleta is what to order here. Grilled over a charcoal fed, clay fire pit for the perfect Smokey crust. Mature in flavour and really tasty - the yellow fat caps were beautifully rendered and juicy. It’s a beefy piece of meat and they really do it justice - thinly sliced, nicely cooked and served with sea salt and a basque chimichurri. For starters, the cecina croquettes were incredible - the perfectly velvety texture in the centre with a golden crispy exterior. Salty, rich and moreish. A must! Brioche with stracciatella and smoked caviar was great too, the smoked oscietra was a really intense, buttery bite and the stracciatella brioche was a great neutral vehicle for it. The senyoret rice with red prawn and squid was stunning too, as was the rubia gallega steak tartare, the tomato tartare and the charcoal grilled langoustine with torched hollandaise. So many good plates here. For fish, the turbot is the move. An incredible sauce is made for this by whisking the natural collagen and fat from the fish with butter to create the creamiest, most delicious jus. Unreal! The only dish I didn’t like was the basque cheesecake. I found this to be far too strong and cheesy for my taste. That aside though, the food here is amazing. Great meat, great seafood and what a view. Will be back for sure #notoriousfoodie 🙅🏽♂️
