Dinner in the grill room @thehero_w9 🔥🥩

A stunning space. Set on the first floor of The Hero in Maida Vale is their newly opened Grill Room. Ultra high ceilings, dim lighting and a warm, cozy mood all made for a really pleasant meal. The focus is of course on the grill here, with all the usual suspects on the menu + some creative new dishes. For starters you need to order the raw beef hash brown. One of my favourites from the evening - crispy potato hash brown, chunky beef tartare - exploding with flavour. Tender beef, tastefully dressed and just a really solid bite. This was too good and it went fast. The clams were incredible too. Highly recommend - smokey notes in a sauce that was so well emulsified. It really coated the mouth and had such an addictive, oceany, umami packed taste to it. I spooned up the sauce once the bowl was done - a delicious plate of clams!Langoustines were good but nothing notable, prefer the ones at the Devonshire tbh - similar style but elevated with that special sauce. Beef was knockout - a 1.3kg bone-in ribeye. Beautifully marbled, and the perfect temp on that thing. The crust, the texture and an ultra beefy dry-aged flavour. The beef reduction surrounding the steak was rich and addictive. I love a steak with beef jus on the side for dipping and dragging. The chilled Chateau Cambon Beaujolais was tremendous with this! Brown butter brill, cooked beyond perfect, just lacked any flavour. The sauce didn’t do too much but damn was that thing soft. Pork T-bone also didn’t quite do it for me but I’m not a huge pork lover, so don’t go off my comment. All in all, a great place for dinner. That dining room has such charm and there are some great bits on their menu #notoriousfoodie 🙅🏽♂️

What a pub! @thehero_w9 🤌🏽🔥

Been meaning to visit the revamped Hero and finally got in for an early dinner. What a space. Been meaning to visit the revamped Hero and finally got in for an early dinner. What a space. The four storey building has been totally refurbed with a casual restaurant on the ground floor and a soon to be opening, slightly more formal grill up on the first. Rustic-chic interiors and classic but elevated pub food on the restaurant menu. Everything from bangers and mash and a fish pie, to scotch eggs, a cheese toastie + ham egg and chips. Finding proper pubs in London with good food isn’t easy, but these guys know what they’re doing - it’s the same team behind @thepelican_w11 and @thebullcharlbury so you can expect a similar style of operation. The lamb ribs were delicious - nicely charred, sticky and meaty. Similar to those at Devonshire! Cod cheeks were great too, crispy, light and perfectly cooked with a mild curry sauce and lemon on the side. Cheese toastie.. phenom. Rich, but it shouldn’t be any other way - buttery, crispy and oozing with cheddar. For mains I ordered the roast chicken for two, beautifully grilled and sat on toasted brioche. Served with a chicken sauce and giroles - lovely dish. Steak and chips, very pretty! I don’t personally like onglette - found it very chewy and tough to eat, but flavours and sear were there. Fish pie, immaculate. The potato was light, fluffy, buttery and beautifully browned. It’s honestly such a lovely pub - looking very forward to the opening of their grill. Will be back soon to hit that first floor. In the meantime, go here! #notoriousfoodie
