It’s quite nice just hitting the sushi counter at Niju, watching @david.sushi.london and his team prepare all of the nigiri and sashimi in front of you. There’s only a handful of seats and it’s on a walk-in only basis, so pretty casual, but the quality of fish here is hard to beat in London. They do both classic and ‘Niju-style’ nigiri, the latter of which they play with a few more ingredients and have lots of aburi-style nigiri. Had some incredible tuna and scallop nigiri this evening. The torched scallop with butter, sichimi and soy was incredibly soft and smokey - melted in the mouth with the luke-warm grains of shari. Also loved the Icelandic uni gunkan - the urchins just came in and were looking vibrant as ever. Very umami and not so sweet but really fresh and creamy. Hamachi with ponzu jelly really good too. They came round with the days selection of Wagyu beef too but I was very much on a sushi vibe so had a look and continued hitting the nigiri! #notoriousfoodie 🙅🏽♂️

Popped back in to Niju for dinner the other night and had some excellent plates. It’s a restaurant that elegantly blends home-style Japanese cooking (katei-ryōri), with incredible steak and sushi. These are the three core pillars of their menu, so there’s something for everyone. Popped back in to Niju for dinner the other night and had some excellent plates. It’s a restaurant that elegantly blends home-style Japanese cooking (katei-ryōri), with incredible steak and sushi. These are the three core pillars of their menu, so there’s something for everyone. If you’re thinking steak, they’ll bring out this board to show you the different cuts and varieties available on the day. This rotates but you’ll be sure to find an incredible Wagyu and Kobe selection - some Japanese, some Australian and some cross-bred British. Amazing stuff. I ordered the Japanese A5 chateaubriand in the centre - cooked over binchotan charcoal till medium. Amazing flavour profile and texture. Smokey, well seared and ultra tender. The fat melted as I ate it, but more than anything, it was the combination of a hard sear and rendered fat that made this taste so good. The sushi and sashimi here is top-tier too, led by @david.sushi.london . Loved the aburi toro and Wagyu nigiris, but the scallop nigiri was a sensational bite too. Buttery soft, sweet and with firm, warm grains of sushi rice. Definitely try this. A4 tartare with house made shokupan for starter is also a must. Lots on the menu here so go with what stands out to you! #notoriousfoodie 🙅🏽♂️

Giving a very warm welcome to Nijū, the newest addition to Mayfair’s restaurant scene. An informal yet decadent Japanese led by Michelin-starred Kazutoshi Endo with a focus on home-style ‘Katei Ryori’ cooking. The site is stunning, with a minimalistic, Japanese style dining room on the left as you walk in and a more cosy, living room style dining room on the right. In terms of food there are two key elements here: elevated sushi and sashimi led by David Bury + home-style Japanese cooking led by Chris Golding with plenty on the grill. The restaurant is very much ingredient driven with the best seasonal produce making its way into dishes. The sushi and sashimi was knockout, ultra fresh and expertly crafted. My favourites were the Nijū-style aburi nigiris, some torched with binchotan for a really intense bite. The tomato tartare here is also must, what a fresh and delicious dish. Highly recommend their chicken katsu too - a unique style of preparation. Ultra crispy and golden all over with the most tender and flavoursome meat. A lovely new addition to the Mayfair scene. Looking forward to seeing this place develop #notoriousfoodie 🙅🏽♂️
