First time trying Alaya in DIFC, was v good - food and service were excellent. A lovely menu bringing together a nice mix of Middle-eastern and Mediterranean dishes. Plenty of choice but definitely had a few favourites. From the starters, the muhammara with sweet peppers, pomegranate and walnut was delicious, as were the grilled harissa prawns and tomato & cheese salad. The tomato and cheese was super tasty - not had one like this before. For mains, I loved two dishes. The Wagyu Shish was sensational - ultra soft, tender and juicy beef, nicely caramelised and served with a homemade harissa. Almost like a Wagyu shawarma in a way - delicious and addictive. The Chilean bass spesitosa was amazing too - buttery soft and flaky but with a nice char, served with a sweet and fresh tomato and pepper sauce. All of the food was spiced and very well seasoned. Hassleback looked pretty but was a little underwhelming imo. Had a lovely 2020 Puligny Montrachet from @louislatour1797 to go along with all of this. Nice place, would go back for this food - would describe it as a sort of elevated Middle Eastern menu. Save space for dessert - the pistachio ice cream is ridic, as is the kunefe #notoriousfoodie 🙅🏽‍♂️
