Finally got to eat at Chishuru! It’s the newly awarded, 1-Michelin starred, modern west African restaurant in Fitzrovia. A lovely space set on ground and lower with just a handful of tables, all of which were full. The three-course set menu here is a great option to give you a full taste of Adejoké’s cooking style. Ultra flavoursome plates that were right on the money in terms of flavour. Hearty, warming and packed full of layered spices. The crispy lamb belly bites with hot pepper relish were phenomenal. I had to order another plate after taking just one bite. These things were perfectly cooked - ultra crispy on the outside with a beautifully tender and juicy centre. Super rich, smokey and spicy but very well balanced with the punchy pepper relish on top. So addictive - couldn’t recommend ordering these enough. Firmly added to my list of favourite bites this year. For main, opted for the charcoal-grilled guinea fowl and jollof rice. Like chicken and rice, but elevated in every way possible. The guinea fowl had a lovely char and smokiness to it. A real depth of flavour in the skin through to the meat. The side of jollof was the perfect pairing - each individual grain coated in the slowly simmered sauce and retaining some bite. Solid spot! Elevated African comfort food #notoriousfoodie 🙅🏽♂️

A lovely lunch at Bistro Freddie. Such a nice dining room with every table full and the open kitchen in full swing. Ordered a bunch of things from the menu. Standouts for me were the bavette with peppercorn sauce and the beer battered monkfish with curry sauce. So much depth in the peppercorn sauce and a lovely crust on the beef. Monkfish was ultra crispy and carefully prepared. Delicious curry sauce, spicy and bright, worked beautifully with the crispy fish. Very tasty flatbreads too, with the garlic and Comte being my favourite. Least favourite dish had to be the chicken and wild garlic pie. For me, really underwhelming - a very watery, almost soupy consistency to the filling and it lacked the flavour and unctuousness I think a pie like this needs. Order their comte croquettes too + their sticky toffee for dessert, was great. A lovely new bistro and solid wine list! #notoriousfoodie 🙅🏽♂️

Popped my head into this little pizza place in Marylebone, just opposite @lurraw1 and had to get a few quick slices. It’s a very casual little neighbourhood spot serving up ‘Argentinian-style’ pizza in a few varieties. The dough is made in house, fermented for 48-hours and had a lovely crusty chew. Thin, leopard spotted crusts and a supple base that wasn’t too crispy. Not saying this was mind blowing pizza but for a casual bite it was pretty good. The favourite was actually a pizza not on the menu. Very simply, their tomato marinara, chorizo pepperoni, fior di latte mozzarella, parmigiano, basil and olive oil. The Marinara was just ok, flavours didn’t quite do it for me. Not sure how it’s Argentine inspired as it seemed more Neapolitan to me but irrespective, a cosy option when you have pizza in mind #notoriousfoodie 🙅🏽♂️

Giving a very warm welcome to Nijū, the newest addition to Mayfair’s restaurant scene. An informal yet decadent Japanese led by Michelin-starred Kazutoshi Endo with a focus on home-style ‘Katei Ryori’ cooking. The site is stunning, with a minimalistic, Japanese style dining room on the left as you walk in and a more cosy, living room style dining room on the right. In terms of food there are two key elements here: elevated sushi and sashimi led by David Bury + home-style Japanese cooking led by Chris Golding with plenty on the grill. The restaurant is very much ingredient driven with the best seasonal produce making its way into dishes. The sushi and sashimi was knockout, ultra fresh and expertly crafted. My favourites were the Nijū-style aburi nigiris, some torched with binchotan for a really intense bite. The tomato tartare here is also must, what a fresh and delicious dish. Highly recommend their chicken katsu too - a unique style of preparation. Ultra crispy and golden all over with the most tender and flavoursome meat. A lovely new addition to the Mayfair scene. Looking forward to seeing this place develop #notoriousfoodie 🙅🏽♂️

Nothing like a big session at Dorian. Needed a moment of silence for that buttermilk fried, crispy guinea fowl leg smothered in house made hot sauce. It was incredibly crisp and flavoursome. The hot sauce is magical. I order extra for dipping those crisps into. They come with the tartare and are so addictive. Steak, flame grilled and tender with a killer crust and luscious beef jus - tenderness can vary depending on what you order and what they have in - it’s difficult to control texture with these older cows but when it hits, it hits in a big way. Ordered all the rostis + a few wild creations that max made on the night - the uni with toro was the perfect amount of OTT, rich, buttery, earthy, wow. Favourite place! #notoriousfoodie 🙅🏽♂️

Went for the steak, stayed for grilled bread and sobrassada. Always a good time here. The raw sobrassada with honey is my favourite. Spicy, sweet and addictive. Usually on toasted sourdough but it wasn’t toasted today, prefer the toasted version for sure. The grilled bread with grilled sobrassada equally as delicious though, a nice combination. Those sharp peppers are what complete it. Dover sole was good. Meaty but tender, with a luscious buttery sauce across the top. Silky smooth. Tried one of their new plates which was the favourite of the table - the grilled ox tongue with violet artichoke was sensational. The double beef broth was rich and complex with a really nice mouth feel. Delicious, comforting and super unique flavour profile. Very good food as usual #notoriousfoodie 🙅🏽♂️

What a dish from Bestia. This was the standout for me. A lovely pasta dish consisting of mini spinach gnocchi, tossed in a sauce made from butter and aged balsamic with smoked breadcrumbs and a perfectly roasted marrow bone across the top. The marrow is scooped out and tossed table-side creating a perfectly glossy and emulsified sauce coating each piece of gnocchi. The chew of the pasta was super satisfying. Lovely amount of balsamic to cut through all the richness - sweet and sharp. Everything you could want in a bite. Nice little spot for casual Italian #notoriousfoodie 🙅🏽♂️

Had to make a stop at Anajak and try some of Justin’s cooking. The restaurant serves a delicious mix of Thai fried chicken, curries, seasonal fish and wok-fired dishes. The wine list here is extensive too, both traditional and vanguard wines. Head chef and owner Justin really creates some magic in that kitchen. The food was bright, fresh and very well seasoned. Each component carefully considered. Loved both the papaya salad and the cucumber and radish with crispy rice. These are must orders that’ll help to cut through the deeply spiced and layered elements of his larger plates. My favourites were definitely the pineapple glazed ribs, fried chicken and the mango sticky rice made by his mum. The ribs were charred, sticky and tender - sweet and moreish, nicely balanced flavour profile. Fried chicken, crispy and well seasoned with a sambal + sweet chilli on the side - the caviar that I ordered as an extra just took this up a few notches more. There’s so much tasty food on the menu it’s a good idea to try a few things from each section. Don’t sleep on their Chinese sausage fried rice - this was sensational. Sweet, super charred and plenty of wok-hei coming through. A solid spot with what must be one of the worlds best mango sticky rice.. #notoriousfoodie 🙅🏽♂️

One of my favourites from this trip for sure. This Michelin-starred modern French bistro in DTLA’s Arts District serves up a number of elevated classic like this steak au poivre but so many other fresh and innovative plates too. Their French Onion Tartine was knockout - essentially the top part of a classic French onion soup - garlic rubbed, toasted sourdough, plenty of Gruyère and a generous amount of their reduced French onion jus. An amazing idea and deliciously rich bite. Their scallop Demi-lune pasta was my favourite of the night. A perfectly emulsified better blanc with individually wrapped pasta filled with the sweetest slices of scallop. Incredible balance and consistency in this one, highly recommend. The sirloin was perfectly soft and tender - I think this was the most tender sirloin I’ve ever had. The knife was gliding through each slice with ease and the shiny sauce coated every piece just enough. Spicy, creamy, beefy.. a dream. Roasted chicken - super interesting. They stuff the breast with a mousse made from the thighs and roast till crisp. Served with a deeply spiced tomato sauce. So comforting to eat. Top service and excellent food here.
