This place has been on my list for a long time. With just 6-seats, 1-Michelin star and a tiny menu, it’s 100% worth the wait. Chef and owner Yasushi Matsumura has really created something special here. His 30 years in French cuisine most definitely makes its way into the food. Every element of the ramen from the broth, to the pork, to the noodles is so elegantly put together. I loved it. There are 2 main dishes, the classic ramen and the special. The special just has the addition of a pork, foie gras and truffle dumpling inside - but let me tell you, this is the move. It’s the most juicy, meaty and flavoursome dumpling. A must order - it really took it to another level. The broth here is so complex. Made from duck and chicken bones, with the additional depth from prosciutto, scallops, shiitake, kombu and green onions. It’s clear, light and velvety smooth whilst also having a lovely mouth feel and great body to it. Rich and layered. Liquid gold. The noodles were a little soft for me but this ramen just ticks so many boxes. A perfectly gooey egg yolk and the most amazingly tender chashu pork. You feel good after having this. It’s not heavy at all. On the side, their chashu pork rice bowl. Matsumura-san may tell you to pour a few ladles of the ramen broth on to the rice - it’s delicious, but no match for the ramen itself. 25 courses, 11 seats and 1 Michelin star. Sushi Takamitsu is an intimate omakase restaurant set on the quiet backstreets of Nakameguro. Yasuda-san specialises in sourcing and using the highest quality fatty tuna and most amazing varieties of uni. A lot of the produce is exclusive to Takamitsu and you simply won’t be able to find it anywhere else. If theres something he wants, he will outbid anyone to get it, just so he can serve it to his customers. He’s one of the largest buyers of uni in Tokyo. The courses are unique and interesting with my favourites being the bafun uni and white truffle rice, the black-throat sea perch and his amazing chutoro. The perch nigiri was insane - grilled, fatty and super tender, it melted like butter and the two types of vinegar in the rice really completed the bite. Yasuda Takamitsu is an incredible sushi chef. Knife work was wild. The LV luggage he is famous for displaying his produce on was a gift from one of his regulars and it takes pride of place on the counter. Lovely evening, great vibe, delicious sushi and a very friendly team. No English. I would go back for sure.. #notoriousfoodie 🙅🏽♂️

A counter that’s really like no other. The menu is of course focused on the beef. It’s all about Wagyu here, with 12 courses in total. It’s a super relaxed and informal setting - Hisato and his team are the most incredible hosts and the evening starts with the chefs breaking down a huge joint of A5. You’ll get to try the beef in many forms. Raw, grilled, slow cooked, and torched to name a few - it’s an interactive tasting menu and you’ll be made to feel right at home throughout. Favourites from the evening (there were a few) were the @davidbeckham Sando which is WM’s take on the Shima classic. Ultra thinly sliced roast Wagyu beef layered between two slices of toasted, buttery milk bread. The beef was perfectly cooked. Delicious. The classic Sando was great too, as good as it looks. Also loved the gyoza with the Wagyusco hot sauce - good heat from their hot sauce and the most juicy dumplings. Almost like a xiaolongbao in terms of filling - crazy juicy. Their bafun uni dog was wild too. I just love the uni in Japan and these guys gave us some of the best. All of the courses washed down with many many highballs and plenty of sake. What a night! #notoriousfoodie 🙅🏽♂️

As far as Yakiniku goes, Edo is at the very top end of the spectrum. Once you take a seat at the counter, Chef Taisuke Chikashige will take you on a journey using only the very best cuts of Kobe and Wagyu beef. Starting raw and progressing onto the Yakiniku (grilled) plates, he will slice, prep and grill each course right in front of you. His access to some of the rarest ingredients makes dining here quite unique - the Wagyu tongue is one of his specialities. Hadn’t tried this before. Not as soft as I thought it would be, but packed full of flavour as it cooks on high flame over the binchotan. My favourites were the beef tartare and bafun uni hand roll (uni was some of the best I’ve had), the grilled beef cheek with peppercorn (nuts) and the milk ice cream. Thinly sliced sirloin with sweet soy was also top. The crust he manages to get on some of these cuts without overcooking the beef is crazy. The entire team were incredibly hospitable - super friendly and welcoming. Would definitely recommend for an intimate, high-end Yakiniku experience. Booked well in advance for this one. No visit to Dubai is complete without a quick stop at Gaia. The Greek-Mediterranean in @difc always delivers on its food and service. A few of my favourites pictured. I would suggest going heavier on the seafood here, it’s what they’re best at and you can choose from the freshest produce from their iced seafood display. The toro caviar with bluefin otoro, oscietra caviar, shallot and olive crackers is delicious. Love the prawn sagnaki here, really tasty with an addictive tomato and garlic sauce - prefer these even to the wood oven prawns. For main, went for the grilled harissa turbot - beautifully cooked and lathered in rosemary, garlic, chilli, olive oil and lemon juice. The fish was soft, meaty and gelatinous and came with a lovely sauce - it’s a fish that imo is adequate enough to replace a red meat based dish. For seafood lovers, try the carabinero rice - like a scorched risotto of sorts, cooked in fish/prawn stock. This was a little fishy for me overall but tasty in small quantities! Save space for the frozen yogurt! #notoriousfoodie 🙅🏽♂️

The biggest prawns, these things are like mini lobsters - super meaty and delicious. Grilled over the roaring Woodfire and brushed liberally with a Cajun spiced brown butter. An amazing spicy, nutty flavour that lingers in the mouth. Aside from these, the steak here is some of the best you’ll find in Dubai. It’s just a different level - high quality beef and flawless technique. The steaks are marinated in Akmal’s own rub before being grilled. An incredible crust all over with well rendered fat. Ultra beefy in flavour with hints of rosemary. Delicious. Very good food here with a focus on the grill. No booze. 1 Michelin star #notoriousfoodie 🙅🏽♂️

A very good tahdig. Aside from all of the other great Persian food at Berenjak Jumeirah, the tahdig is one of my favourite sides. This only comes with the larger sharing plates like the slow-cooked lamb shoulder and whole chicken but it’s super delicious and satisfying. An ultra crispy casing and the fluffiest saffron rice underneath - perfectly cooked individual grains that work so beautifully with all the food. The lamb shoulder with this is just so good. Mains are great but don’t forget about all the starters and sides - go heavy on those. truffle chicken Olivieh is nuts! #notoriousfoodie 🙅🏽♂️

Went down to Sumosan for dinner and the food was exceptional. Don’t confuse this Sumosan with Twiga from London as the restaurant here is a very different offering. A solid Japanese menu serving up an innovative mix of classics with sushi and sashimi at the forefront. The nigiri here is very good. Beyond the level of most Japanese spots of this scale. Individual, firm grains of rice with a nice sweetness and subtle kick of vinegar. Perfectly crafted slithers of sashimi layered on top with a lick of soy and fresh wasabi. Great otoro and Wagyu nigiri. The uni from Hokkaido was special too - this variety was ultra creamy and buttery smooth. It had an almost melting texture to it. My favourites from the main menu were the smoked hamachi, the crispy duck salad and the toro tartare, as well as the Wagyu sirloin and Wagyu sando. A nice alternative to the usual suspects in DIFC - made a nice change and definitely a step up on the food offering! #notoriousfoodie 🙅🏽♂️

First time trying Alaya in DIFC, was v good - food and service were excellent. A lovely menu bringing together a nice mix of Middle-eastern and Mediterranean dishes. Plenty of choice but definitely had a few favourites. From the starters, the muhammara with sweet peppers, pomegranate and walnut was delicious, as were the grilled harissa prawns and tomato & cheese salad. The tomato and cheese was super tasty - not had one like this before. For mains, I loved two dishes. The Wagyu Shish was sensational - ultra soft, tender and juicy beef, nicely caramelised and served with a homemade harissa. Almost like a Wagyu shawarma in a way - delicious and addictive. The Chilean bass spesitosa was amazing too - buttery soft and flaky but with a nice char, served with a sweet and fresh tomato and pepper sauce. All of the food was spiced and very well seasoned. Hassleback looked pretty but was a little underwhelming imo. Had a lovely 2020 Puligny Montrachet from @louislatour1797 to go along with all of this. Nice place, would go back for this food - would describe it as a sort of elevated Middle Eastern menu. Save space for dessert - the pistachio ice cream is ridic, as is the kunefe #notoriousfoodie 🙅🏽♂️
