Tuesday is $6 night at @broadsidenola , and last week I went for the $6 sushi from @nikkeiizakaya — nigiri and handrolls. Tuesday also has $6 movies next door at @thebroadnola , and lots of people were pairing with sushi with a flick.
But I stuck around for a platter of tiradito from the Peruvian-Japanese pub menu, and got an eyeful of the source fish too.
This tavern kitchen inside the Broadside (from the former Carmo crew) is a special place doing different things, and should be on your list.

What had me talking about @lemoynebistronola after this meal is how it feels traditionally French but also has its own personality.

It felt like a portal to France on a quiet summer night in downtown New Orleans.
They have a very enticing #Coolinary menu in August (3 courses, $55) but there was too much else I wanted to try so we went for the regular menu.
Link in my bio has the full read , here are highlights
The house made bread and cultured butter to start.
Jimmy Nardello peppers, singing of summer, a special, mild, fruity, tasty red peppers - named for the guy who brought the seeds over, I learned.
Steak tartare with horseradish and chile oil
Pate de campagne , worth a visit over a glass of wine at the bar on its own
Tuna Niçoise, more a fish entree with salad accoutrements than a salad per se
Short rib carbonnade with a sauce that commanded more of the bread back to swipe
Black eyed pea cassoulet on the side, a subtle touch of the South, that still felt very French
Cake with black tea caramel and roasted pineapple ice cream
Deep wine list, excellent service. I was very happy to finally get back to this place. It should be on your list

I flinched at the $82 price tag, but this is a fish for two, and like splitting a large format steak, turned out to be a good value to quality to quantity ratio.
Magnificent in fact. We scrapped it down to get the dark fatty bits by the skin, and considered keeping the scales as a souvenir, but no.
Crab salad with buttermilk and dill, the shrimp salad with a very Southeast Asian via Deep South profile, and fried okra to complete the meal.

There is a lot packed in from this Cajun banh mi at @thecommissary_nola .
It is their #Coolinary lunch offer, paired with a Vietnamese affogato (which I got to go and so of course had dessert first).

It shows off the in-house charcuterie program here, with tasso and rillettes.
It’s on @bellegardebakery bread, a reminder that the brand is part of the Commissary now and baking right here.
It’s dressed with carrot and mirliton because this is a Brennan place and they work in lots of local touches (plus fish sauce and jalapenos).
And the coffee is from @congregation_coffee (run by the cousin of the Commissary operators, local family coffee connection).
$16 for the Coolinary combo

And there, a door that looks like it might open to a closet instead reveals @propersake_ricevice .
Party buses are bigger than this 18-seat bar, lined with wood panels, feeling like a stereo speaker ad torn from a vintage Playboy magazine.
It would lure sake aficionados anywhere it was found. Here in Algiers Point, it’s a worthy inspiration for a ferry ride all on its own.
Start with a tasting flight, an excellent value for the quality.

It’s a square meal in my book even if the pizza is rectangular.
This was a surprise find. I’ve heard good things about @hi_tide_pizza , but hadn’t caught up with them in the field until we happened into happy hour at @carrollton_station to find them taking over the tavern kitchen for the week — stepping in for the regular pop-up @berties.intergalactic.diner while on vacation.
Deep, dark, crusty, almost caramelized edge of the crust gives a great bite all the way around, softer thick crust within, fantastic bar food all around.
This one has big chunks of gauncaile (the joy of jowls), confit garlic cloves and a reservoir of vodka sauce.
Paired with a tuna crudo dressed in toum (!).
Per their page, they’re at Carrollton Station through Friday this week, and @okaybarnola on Sunday.

The restaurant is actively courting a younger clientele.
Aren’t we all, right?
But for the French Creole showboats, it’s vital.
They are unique to New Orleans, steeped in history and tradition. For that to continue, these places also must be relevant to successive generations looking for places to dine out, bring their celebrations and make their own traditions.
Hence Arnaud’s summer campaign.
Through August, they continue a 30% discount for “young professionals” on certain nights.
And daily happy hour at both bars (yes, there are are two…)
This week, starting July 28 through Sept 7, the French 75 gets a make over with @moetchandon , in a Euro beach resort theme (add lobster rolls).
And another wine-soaked Friday rose lunch is coming up August 22 with a DJ in the dining room and Jell-O shots to start and (probably) more cafe brulot.

The hotel is part of Austin-based , @mmlhospitality and this summer they’re bringing in Texas barbecue for pop-ups in partnership with @getgraza , benefiting the great work of @southernsmokefoundation for the hospitality industry.
This time it was @reesebrosbbq of San Antonio.
Word is the next edition Aug. 23 could include a visit from chef @aprilbloomfield, newly now with MML.

The CBD spot is a magnet for celebrities. It’s heavy on vibe. Some of the prices are eye-popping, even by steakhouse standards.
But then there’s happy hour (M-F, 4-6), and this steak frites lands on the HH menu for $18.
It is all I could ask from for a steak under $20 , cooked to spec, with garlicky butter, and the crisp fries were great.
Some happy hour specials are snacks and that’s okay. This one is dinner. Good drinks specials too.
Link in my bio has the full report in this and more restaurant happy hour scouting. Cheers!

Who would’ve thought witch restaurant with a speakeasy vibe right off Bourbon Street would feel absolutely genuine?
Cristina Quackenbush did, and she rolled her identity as a witch together with her reputation as a master of her native Filipino flavors for @tatlonola .
But now Tatlo is counting down its final days, set to close July 27.
The late-night restaurant and absinthe bar (tagline: “for the bewitched and hex curious’) has been popular, drawing a large local following.
But expenses of running the business in its current location have become untenable, the chef said. A future location elsewhere is a possibility she’s now exploring.
“Tatlo was born from a desire to create something sacred — a space that honored women, Filipino culture, spiritual curiosity and the art of gathering with intention,” the chef told me.
You have a week and change to try it in its current incarnation.
Meanwhile, her popup @milkfishnola and @kusinanola are collaborating on events, including communal kamayan dinners.
