Man cannot live on king cake alone!
It’s early, and they’re small and pricey, but it’s here and at @seithers_seafood it was a welcome sight (and smell, and taste!). More to come.

@taqueriaguerrero17 reopened this week after a hiatus of about five weeks that carried uncertainty of when it might return amid the Border Patrol’s campaign in the area.
After it announced plans to temporarily shutter, people packed the small Mid-City spot on its final weekend in a show of support. They lined the block waiting their turn for a table until the restaurant sold out of food.
The reopening has seen a steadier return to its normal pace, and that’s exactly what owner Jesus Martínez hoped would happen.
The regular progression of familiar faces coming back has been a welcome sight, he told me.
The return means one of my favorite soups is back, the pozole rojo, as is a part of neighborhood life that’s been a Mid-City touchstone since the early post Katrina days.

A visit for snacks at the bar before some downtown holiday hotel lobby hopping was a causally elegant and delicious dinner.
Foie gras as bar snack, gumbo with velvety texture, deep flavor, and amazing rice (really!), shrimp and lobster dumplings, and duck fried rice.

Cocktails off the naughty list and a very nice Réveillon dinner at @caneandtable .
This is one of those French Quarter businesses right up against it, meaning the construction fences, that will be here for months to come. But inside, it’s just delightful, as usual.

The garlic soup on the Reveillon menu from @alfredo_nogueira is worth a visit all on its own. We added a few things of course - that pork ribeye, so good!

@evviva.nola is the restaurant you visited in Italy, the neighborhood spot that speaks softly and that you couldn’t stop talking about afterward.
It’s the one with the menu that reads simply, overdelivers in fresh and vivid flavors, and changes constantly with the market and the catch of the day. You swore that after that your trip you’d keep eating like this back home, and now you can again at Evviva.
It reunited a circle of people who opened the restaurant this year (in the former Franklin), including two chefs who have fed us so well through the years, Rebecca Wilcomb - once of Herbsaint and Gianna - and Marcus Jacobs - of the late Marjie’s Grill and Seafood Sally’s.
Start with happy hour, which goes late and always has something new and interesting coming through, like a workshop for the two chefs behind this kitchen.
Some photos here by @cgranger of the roasted mussels, endive/radicchio salad and anchovy bread, and garlicky grilled shrimp, martinis and vibes.

So it was a joy to discover how the new restaurant @saintclaire_neworleans has created a new one that’s actually within the city limits.
Saint Claire will serve you a lovely dinner, in the vein of French country cooking filtered through Louisiana.
It also an enchanting destination, thanks to a combination of an old house with a new glow-up, the expansive, oak-laden grounds around it and the warmth of hospitality.
People go on retreats for the kind restorative feeling I took away from an early Friday dinner around sunset.
