A few more highlights from last week’s Austin tour: next up, an old favorite: @leroyandlewis. Smoked tri-tip as good as ever, plus direct-heat chicken along with kimchi elotes and a Frito pie (had to get a Frito pie.) A little steamy in the dining room, but fortunately the Big Red frozen sangria was slushy and cold.
Next up on the ATX BBQ Tour: another (relative) newcomer, @parishbarbecue. I love that they're switching it up with some less conventional items, like smoked beef chuck and a rotating boudin of the week.
That tender chuck has a big beefy bite, and you can fold a chunk into a shard of white bread with a pinch of pickle and onion and a... More
The best (and hardest) part of visiting @interstellarbbq is figuring out which of the many unexpected treats you are going to sample vs. what’s on the regular menu.
From the regular (but not ordinary) menu: lean brisket, a delightfully tender, juicy lamb shoulder taco, and the "STX" pork hash - think S. Carolina hash and rice meets... More
Austin BBQ Tour rolling on. Another newcomer, @twogoose_ which is considerate enough to open at 8:00 am with a full slate of breakfast tacos and burritos — plus no line (at least not when I was there) and tasty cold brew to kick-start the day.
These breakfast tacos are no joke, either — compact bites of soft, pliant flour tortillas... More
Next up in Austin: a craft OG I’ve not visited in too long, @stilesswitchbbq. Going in was planning on doing the traditional TX Trinity but was lured in by the smoked prime rib special. I’ve never regretted ordering prime rib.

In Texas this weekend for the SMOKE BBQ Showdown at @omnibartoncreek and pre-gaming with up a few Austin BBQ spots. First up, newcomer @churchrowbbq for a couple of tacos and a little soccer, too.
La Valentina, with two thick slices of brisket, has a great beefy punch of post oak smoke that merges with the soft flour tortilla... More
June is here, which means it's Tacos for Tom time at @hometeambbq. Is it the smooth, silky texture of the flour tortilla? The bite of finely-shaved red onion? The punch of harissa mayo? Not sure, but they’re delicious (and for a great cause, too!)
Impressed every time by @establishmentchs. Happy Hour bites: an Old & Established followed by marvelous grilled peaches over slivered snow peas, an unexpectedly cold but delicious Frogmore "salad" (smoked shrimp, sausage, potatoes, and corn tossed with Old Bay vinaigrette), and the classic lump crab gnudi.
Word on the street is that cheese-infused cocktails are the hot new thing in 2026, and there's a new(ish) one at @thearcherchs.
El Mancheguito features manchego-washed gin with marcona almonds, lemon, and a dose of fizzy Lambrusco on the side so you can finish it off yourself, New York sour style.
