Briskets is housed in a cool tiny building in Oviedo, FL. The old brick pit is no longer in use, but they are cooking on real wood on metal pits in the back.
Chopped brisket is quite tasty when dunked in the sweet brown sauce, and the quarter chicken has a nice dose of smoke on the skin. For sides, sweet cornbread casserole and a three-bean mix in... More

Kudos to @thegrocerychs and @discover_sc for a brilliant @chswineandfood lunch featuring an array of local SC produce and seafood.
Heading up into the NC Piedmont to check in on an old favorite. Classic signs and the best ceiling hands-down in all of barbecue.

Checked out @katsuboeats for the first time with @bobby.mosss as wingman, and glad we did. Soy-rich Tokyo Shoyu ramen with chicken chashu is a fine cold-weather bowl, but I think I like the silky pork & chicken broth in the Tori Paitan even better — and it gets richer and more flavorful as you get down to the bottom of the bowl... Said it before and will say it again: the red horse bread (aka hushpuppies) at @sullivansfishcamp may be the best in town. And only @jasondeanstanhope could put broccoli in the Frogmore Stew and somehow make it delicious!
One more from last week's Texas swing, for I ducked into @southbbq's shiny new location in San Antonio before flying home. Kudos for the hours on that sign out front: 11 AM to 10 PM (10PM!!!), seven days a damn week. Or as we would call it here in the Carolinas, "normal hours."
The ribs and turkey are pretty top notch too, and I loved that... More
More highlights from last week's South Texas barbecue swing. Up next: Vera's Backyard BBQ in Brownsville, about two miles from the Mexican border.
There's a reason Vera is an American classic. The cachete (beef cheeks) are a little smoky and pull into long, sublimely tender chunks. I think I may like the birria (lamb, in Vera's case) even better... More
Heading further south as I recap the South Texas BBQ swing. Up next: breakfast tacos at @elsanchobbq in Mission.
The Milagroso (a thick slice of brisket, beans, tomato-laced papas a la Mexicana, bacon, fried egg, and lots of gooey cheese underneath) is a miraculously hefty concoction that needs a fork and knife to eat, while the Barbacoa... More
Fortunately I got to San Antonio well before the cold front and have since headed south. (These are latergram recaps, and just hitting the highlights . . .) First up, @2msmokehouse. Lean brisket, ribs, and splendid pork sausage with serranos and Oaxaca cheese. Love the “chicaroni”, too — Mac n cheese topped with powdered chicharrones.
