When in New York . . . @keenssteakhouse for the Mutton Chop with hash browns (after a relish tray and proper cocktail, of course.) the gentleman on the wall does not seem to approve . . . But that's OK.
Since I was in Charlotte, dropped in for a much-overdue visit to @noble_smoke, and very glad I did. Solid brisket, turkey, and chopped pork, but what really impressed were the smoked picanha (daily special) and the outstanding lineup of farm-to-table sides: savory succotash with butter beans and field peas, pickled golden beets, and delicious... After a long day of rib-sampling, wrapped up in Birmingham with splendid Mediterranean plates at @bottegabham. Figaro, Figaro cocktail to start, then ginger-laced fried oysters, rich butter beans & lady peas, grilled quail over sweet corn polenta, and the standout: tender ravioli with sweet corn fonduta and golden chanterelles. Fortunately... More
Another old Alabama favorite, the OG Archibald’s in Northport. That old metal-doored brick pit is a classic. The ribs were particularly good this time around — great smoky bite and flavor that surges out with each chew.
I definitely have a soft spot in my heart for those cooked-hot-and-fast, char-laced, sauce-soaked ribs at the original @dreamlandbbq in Tuscaloosa. Don't think I've had the pork sandwich before, and it's tasty, too, and top-notch potato salad for the capper.
Desk lunch! Coco's Salad w/ shrimp from @mi_xao_mt_pleasant
New wood-cooked whole hog barbecue joint alert! The Honey Hog in Morganton, North Carolina, opened in July. Cooking locally-sourced whole hog plus brisket, ribs, chicken and more on a pair of offsets named Paw Paw and Nannie. (No, really.)
It's pretty darn big operation, too, complete with a full bar and two dining porches. The Piedmont of NC and... More
A visit to @bluehoundbarbecue, just across the NC line in Dillard, GA, has been on my to-do list for far too long, but no more! @pitmasterkylebryner is hard at work creating a distinctive Appalachian-style barbecue, and it starts with bang-up brisket and beef cheeks from just up the road at @brasstownbeef. The platters... More
Finally made it up to Waynesville NC to check out @bensbackdraftbbq1. When he's not putting fires out, Ben's stoking them in a big @tmg_pits offset plus a direct heat hog cooker. Beefy, thick-sliced brisket is solid, but that chopped pork with a generous dose of sweet vinegar sauce is the star (esp. with a generous forkful of that... More
New School Barbecue across Texas is abundant to say the least. Countless folks are doing it extremely well as evidenced in the conversations we share in with every BBQ enthusiast we have the opportunity to prepare a tray for.
We couldn’t be more honored to be selected by @texashighways to represent Beaumont and all of SETX with our take... More
