A few more highlights from last week’s Austin tour: next up, an old favorite: @leroyandlewis. Smoked tri-tip as good as ever, plus direct-heat chicken along with kimchi elotes and a Frito pie (had to get a Frito pie.) A little steamy in the dining room, but fortunately the Big Red frozen sangria was slushy and cold.

I don’t often drink wine with barbecue, but when I do, it’s usually from a Texas vineyard (and with smoked tri-tip from @leroyandlewis in this case . . .)

In the final newsletter of the year, I share a rejoinder from Meathead of @amazingribs on pairing wine and barbecue and take care of a little more unfinished business.

See link in bio.

One more from Austin, and it’s a doozy: the (relatively) new digs of @leroyandlewis and, boy, is it an upgrade. For starters, open late (till 10 pm on Fridays), with a sleek, midcentury modern style. All the old favorites are still there—whole hog, kimchi, frito pie, L&L burger—along with a parade of even more intriguing things, like beef tallow-fried chips with a great crunch upfront and smooth on the tongue plus a fantastic whole grain salad spiked with herbs and pickled grapes.
