A wonderful experience at @locandadebanchieri , up in the hills above La Spezia. Chef/owner @giacomo_devoto has created a little oasis up in the hills with stunning views down the valley and on to the sea. Set in beautiful kitchen gardens and olive groves where he picks his menus and even presses his own olive oil, this restaurant with rooms really is worth the journey and I would recommend it to anyone. A tasting menu and also A La Carte menu are complimented perfectly by the wines from his 800 label strong cellar and together with Giacomo’s relaxed and friendly demeanour you really feel like you are dining in his home rather than just another restaurant.
Overlooked when I visited last year by the Michelin guide as so many restaurants these days seem to be, I was surprised to notice the lack of Michelin star but am thrilled to see that they have now been recognised by the guide and given that well deserved star. I can’t wait to revisit soon

No regresso do Alentejo, com o calor a colar-se ao volante e às ideias, Santarém impôs-se como pausa necessária. Parámos no Chapa 7, marisqueira de espírito despretensioso onde o rigor mora no prato — e não na decoração.

Vieram amêijoas bem tratadas, sapateira para preguiçosos, gamba branca, ostras frescas repletas de salinidade e mar. E os chamados momos — carabineiros de corpo cheio e sabor denso, que por cá se apresentam, nem sempre com rigor, como camarão vermelho.

No final, o Preguinho. Pão crocante, carne suculenta, mostarda na medida certa — e, felizmente, sem o excesso de alho que tantas vezes sabota o fecho da refeição.

A carta de vinhos mantém-se lúcida e convidativa. Brancos e champanhes de substância, acompanhados por uma seleção que inclui alguns dos grandes nomes do mundo vínico — daquelas presenças que fariam corar muitas garrafeiras estreladas.

Depois, novamente o calor. E um furo na autoestrada. Mas isso, seria história para outro episódio!

A legendary Kyushu shop, massive in size by Japanese standards with over 150 seats and two parking lots with space for 50+ cars. The creamy and smooth Kurume style soup is made from 100% pig heads, noodles special ordered via Kurume Seimen. Standard ramen costs just 470 yen. On weekends they have been known to serve well over 1000 customers per day. Legend has it that because of the presence of this shop, the surrounding area has been developed with more people coming. A beautiful new addition to J1 beach. There have been a couple of Woodfire grill openings in the last year or so but Ina has definitely made its mark on the scene. It’s an open-air restaurant that has a totally unique vibe to it - dark and moody but inviting and warm at the same time. On the menu, lots of grilled seafood, meat and vegetables. Quite an impressive selection of Australian and US dry-aged beef - the cowgirl split bone ribeye caught my eye from the get go, as did the tomahawk with its aggressive marbling. To start though, the beef carpaccio was one of the standouts. Wafer thin, super marbled and drizzled with a fresh, floral and herby green dressing alongside some caviar. Rolled up and eaten in one bite, this was lovely. The Greek Manouri cheese with smoked grapes and olive oil was sensational too, couldn’t get enough of that crumbly sweet and savoury plate. Tomato carpaccio wasn’t really a carpaccio but fresh, sweet and enjoyable. From the crudo’s, the pink bream was both the eye and flavour catcher - a nice spicy charred jalapeno dressing across the top. Raw Hokkaido scallops and kiwi were tasty too. The steak was also fantastic. The ribeye was funky and mature - a meatier profile than the tomahawk, which was milder and more tender. Both steaks nicely cooked, smokey and flavoursome. I preferred the AUS to the US though. Lots of tasty plates to choose from here, all kissed with some sort of smoke. It’s a great spot for dinner - you’re unlikely to find a restaurant with this vibe and style of food anywhere else in Dubai #notoriousfoodie 🙅🏽‍♂️
