The moment the fat drips onto the grill and the sauce begins to caramelize, the fragrant smoke rises, embodying the essence of town-style yakiniku. Wrapping the perfectly grilled green onions in meat and taking a big bite creates a perfect harmony of the punchy sauce and the sweetness of the onions. This was a time filled with the primal pleasure of "enjoying delicious meat grilled generously with a great sauce," in stark contrast to the refined dishes and delicate course structures of high-end restaurants. Both the marinated and salt-seasoned meats are popular, with a unique flavor that’s unmistakably delicious. That day, many famous personalities were at the next table! Haha.▷ In the past, this place was described as having "drinkable loin" and was shrouded in mystery. The addictive marinated meats have made it a challenging reservation spot for regulars.▷ Don’t underestimate the side dish, Omasum Sashimi—it’s a must-order! The portion is generous, and the fresh, crunchy Omasum pairs perfectly with the yellow miso sauce.▷ Before the main dish of loin, I wanted to enjoy the Outside Skirt and Tongue. The Tongue is thick and has a unique flavor whether seasoned with salt or marinade. It retains a crispy texture while being tender from soaking in the sauce.▷ The Outside Skirt is also exquisite, making it hard to stop eating rice. If you’re a big eater, you could easily go for two large bowls! Haha. Here, having extra sauce is the standard, just like a beef bowl with extra broth. I recommend grilling each piece of Outside Skirt carefully to savor its flavor.▷ Now, the main dish, the loin, arrives. Its vibrant red color is so enticing that it makes your mouth water just by looking at it. I recommend grilling a generous portion on the grill. Once it’s cooked to a perfect medium-rare, place it on a steaming bowl of rice and enjoy it without worrying about your surroundings. I believe the word "happiness" is best used at this moment, as it’s delicious every time I eat it! I’m grateful to my friends who always invite me! It was a great meal! Less

Known as a difficult reservation spot, it’s a place every Yakiniku enthusiast should experience at least once. It has consistently been selected as one of Tabelog's top 100 restaurants and received the Tabelog Award Bronze in 2026.On this day, I was particularly looking forward to their signature roast beef. Just lightly searing it creates a melt-in-your-mouth texture, releasing the rich flavors and sweetness of the meat all at once. There’s no excessive greasiness, allowing you to fully enjoy the exquisite taste of high-quality lean meat. It pairs perfectly with white rice, making it hard to put down the chopsticks. The tongue, outside skirt, and Omasum sashimi were also reliably delicious. Each dish highlights the quality of the ingredients, and the simple seasoning allows the natural appeal of the meat to shine through.Although it’s an old-school, smoky Yakiniku restaurant, this is part of what makes Tokyo En so charming. When the person I was supposed to go with suddenly couldn’t make it, I happily accepted the last-minute invitation.I had no idea there was such a spot in Ginza. I’ve heard there are various rules at this restaurant, so I figured it’s best to rely on a regular for a delicious and enjoyable experience.Although I tend to be picky and not very adventurous, I decided to go with the flow this time.First up was the salt-grilled tongue and salt outside skirt. Tongue is my favorite part when it comes to yakiniku. Here, you start with salt and once you switch to sauce, you can’t go back to salt. It seemed like the table next to us didn’t know this, so perhaps they were first-timers?Next, we had the sauced outside skirt and loin. Finally, we enjoyed a generous serving of loin!My absolute favorite in yakiniku is the salt-grilled tongue. I was so happy to have so much of it! ✨ It was incredibly tender and delicious, unlike anything I’ve experienced before! The outside skirt was also tender without any chewiness!I believe the most famous dish here is the loin. It was soaked in sauce and had a melt-in-your-mouth texture. Usually, I get tired of sauce, but I could eat this endlessly.I made sure to pace myself so I wouldn’t feel sick from overeating, and I enjoyed every bite until the end! This was a place I had bookmarked to visit, so it was an exciting night filled with joy and deliciousness! It is a dish where beef, pork, and other meats or offal are marinated in sauce and grilled over an open flame. Alternatively, it can refer to meat that is grilled or stir-fried.In Japanese, the term "yakiniku" has two main meanings: it can refer to grilled meat dishes in general, or it can specifically refer to a style of Japanese cuisine where meat and offal are grilled while being dipped in sauce. This section will explain both meanings: "grilled meat dishes in general" and "yakiniku as a style of Eastern cuisine."The use of the term "yakiniku" to refer to grilled meat dishes is quite old. For example, in the book "Seiyo Ryori Tsuu" by Kanagaki Robun (published in 1872), it was used as a translation for barbecue. In the same year, it was also used in "Seiyo Ryori Shinan" to mean dishes made from grilled game meat. More recently, in Shigeru Mizuki's manga series "GeGeGe no Kitaro," there is a line referring to a whole roasted chicken as "yakiniku." Less

Tokyo En, located in Higashi-Ginza, is a long-established yakiniku restaurant just a minute's walk from Higashi-Ginza Station, nestled in a back alley that exudes a Showa-era atmosphere. Their signature dish, the "drinking roast," features tender marinated meat, while the garlic-seasoned beef tongue and fresh offal are simply exquisite, pairing perfectly with white rice, making them quite popular. This small establishment, run by a dedicated owner, is also known for being difficult to reserve.
The tender roast is truly amazing—it's almost drinkable! The smoke adds to the excitement. The salt-grilled tongue and other salt dishes are also great. The omasum is super fresh, and the namul is definitely worth a refill. The kalbi soup to finish is pleasantly mild in spiciness. I was completely satisfied. I'm so glad there's a place like this in Ginza!
I was invited to a precious seat for my first visit. I thoroughly enjoyed the perfectly grilled meat prepared by regulars who are familiar with the place. The smoky grilled meat was exquisite, and not only the drinkable loin but everything else, including the seasoning, was delicious. This is a classic town yakiniku spot in Ginza, reserved only for those who have triumphed in the fierce reservation battle.

This is my sixth visit since my first in 2018, and I was fortunate to be invited during a rare opportunity for regulars, so I arrived with great anticipation. We began with appetizers like fresh raw beef tripe, kimchi, and namul. The freshness of the beef tripe was outstanding, and its juicy texture heightened my expectations for the upcoming meat. Now, onto the main event: the meat. At Tokyo En, once you dip into the sauce, you can't go back to salt, so we started with salt-seasoned dishes.- Beef Tongue (Salt)- Outside Skirt (Salt)The beef tongue was simply breathtaking. The beautifully cut tongue released an exceptional umami flavor with every bite. I enjoyed the salt outside skirt in between, savoring the generous amount of tongue I ordered. It was so easy to eat that I found myself wanting more. Before moving to the sauce, I absolutely had to order rice. There’s a rule that if you order a "small," you can’t get a refill, so I opted for a "medium" to be safe. Finally, we transitioned to the sauce.- Ribeye (Sauce)- Outside Skirt (Sauce)The signature ribeye is so exquisite that it’s often referred to as "the ribeye you can drink." Of course, it’s not served raw; it’s grilled to perfection, leaving just a hint of red meat, which I enjoyed over rice. The flavor of the homemade sauce was exceptional, and I found myself continuously looping between beer and Oolong highballs, as the pairing with rice was explosive. Honestly, a medium-sized rice portion was nowhere near enough, but I held back and strategically ordered more delicious meat instead. The sauce-seasoned outside skirt did not disappoint either.Once again, it was an incredible experience. Due to its platinum ticket status, it’s beloved by regulars who call repeatedly to secure a reservation. Thus, the style here is to "coordinate your schedule for the day you get a seat." If someone unfamiliar were to get a reservation, they might not fully enjoy the experience. Nevertheless, I’m sure the satisfaction level would still be high. With such premium beef tongue, ribeye, and outside skirt, along with ample drinks, the bill surprisingly came in under JPY 10,000, showcasing an astonishing cost-performance ratio. Considering the Ginza location and the quality of the meat, it’s no wonder reservations are so hard to come by. It’s a tough place to get into, but if invited, I would go to great lengths to make it happen. It was a great meal! Less

It turns out I was one block away, and the organizer had to come pick me up (´;ω;`). Overall, it’s just really tasty. For the salted dishes, the Salted Tongue and Salt Outside Skirt were consistently excellent. The garlic flavor has toned down a bit compared to the past, but it’s still delicious. The tongue is crispy and juicy, simply the best. The Outside Skirt has a strong meaty flavor, which is also fantastic. Unfortunately, my favorite, the liver, wasn’t available since it was Monday. Oh well!Next, we moved on to the sauced dishes. The signature Ribeye and my personal favorite, Sauce Outside Skirt. The sauce has lost some of its punch compared to before, but it’s still incredibly delicious. For the Ribeye, I recommend placing it on a bed of green onions while grilling, as it steams beautifully. Among them, the signature "drinking roast" is incredibly delicious and pairs perfectly with rice! To cook the drinking roast, place green onions underneath and steam the roast on top. This method cooks it perfectly, infusing the green onions with flavor, and it doesn’t produce smoke, making it highly recommended! We ate quite a lot, but at JPY 8,500 per person, it’s a great value! No matter how many times I come here, I always feel an inexplicable excitement on the day of my visit. The greatest charm of Tokyo En lies in its unique "seasoning." The salt sauce has a strong garlic flavor that creates an addictive, junky taste. On the other hand, the dipping sauce has a rich sweetness and deep umami. While the "roast" is widely recognized as a signature dish, I believe it is this distinctive seasoning, along with the quality of the meat itself, that makes me want to return to Tokyo En again and again. I hope this nostalgic town Yakiniku experience continues for a long time. It was a great meal. ■ Orders (★ indicates recommendation level) ▪ Salted Tongue x8 ★★★ ▪ Roast with Sauce x12 ★★★★★ ▪ Salted Outside Skirt x4 ★★ ▪ Salted Liver x4 ★★ ▪ Outside Skirt with Sauce x4 ★★ ▪ Omasum Sashimi x2 ★ ▪ Kimchi x2 ▪ Rice x each person ■ Total Bill Approximately: JPY 72,000 for 8 people ■ Tabelog Rating at the Time of Visit: 3.85 (June 2026) 【★ My Rating System】 ★5.0: (Bliss) A place I want to visit for a lifetime ★4.5: (Ecstasy) A place I want to visit again and again ★4.0: (Impressed) A place I want to visit regularly ★3.5: (Satisfied) A place I would like to visit if given the chance ★3.0: (Agreeable) A place I might revisit I post "real impressions" along with photos! A Showa-style yakiniku restaurant.Overall, the garlic flavor is prominent but not overwhelming, making it delicious at just the right intensity. The much-talked-about loin is well-marinated, perfectly matching the fat, and it's truly enjoyable. The Omasum sashimi is also fresh and tasty.I really liked the flavor of the kimchi as well.I would love to visit again if I have the chance.
