Another sushiya in Tokyo where you can actually make a reservation: Ichikawa. Ichikawa-san is one of the first Araki disciples to branch off with his own shop, and the meal is actually pretty similar to Araki-san's. Now that Araki-san is back in Tokyo, it's definitely a more accessible alternative - and with a Tabelog Bronze award and ranking above 4, it's an obvious attraction for foodies seeking confirmation bias in internet scores. Predictably, the nigiri portion of the meal is nearly half tuna, with a few Araki-style "double drop" nigiri sequences. A special collaboration between @duddellshk and @silkshouse_taipei where two restaurants dedicated to preserving and elevating Cantonese culinary culture come together to exchange ideas and inspirations! I had the pleasure of trying Silks House in Taipei earlier this year and was excited to see the synergy between Chef @maxwo_hoi_ming and Chef Chan. Both chefs brought their A game with highlights such as the Botan shrimp with Thai basil,, double-boiled chicken & squab soup, steamed lobster with minced pork patty,and mapo tofu with mud crab from Silks House and deep-fried egg custard, braised 23 heads dried abalone, and braised local beef brisket from Duddell’s.

April 27, 2026 Located in the picturesque seaside hamlet of Getaria 45 minutes West of San Sebastián, @restaurantekaia is a “must visit” whenever visiting the Basque country. Far less heralded than its sister restaurant @elkano_jatetxea, it is equal in quality and, for us, far more comfortable. Igor, thank you again and see you next year.
