A noteworthy Saitama shop, known for tsukemen served with an extra rich soup. Super decadent tonkotsu gyokai is topped with fish powder along with optional shrimp-based spice mix on the side. Noodles are house-made at the shop every morning using wheat from Hokkaido and Saitama. Curry tsukemen and mazesoba also popular, as well as seasonal specials. Welcome back to Munich Munchies, your guide to the best spots in the city. Tonight we’re at @mastava_ a steak and seafood spot that had me at Surf & Turf and great wine. That’s three of life’s greatest pleasures. What could go wrong?

Started with oysters 🦪 on ice because it’s that kind of night and I needed an aphrodisiac. 10/10, pure, high-quality, no-nonsense. If they came on rocks, I would’ve walked out 😬

Then came the 800g porterhouse, an absolute beast. They warned us it would take 45 minutes to cook medium-rare, which I respect. But after an hour+ and a few glasses of wine, it finally arrived. Cut table-side with a knife that looked like it belonged in a crime scene. Very theatrical.

Recommended bowl: Chicken & niboshi

New-school shop, focusing on some recent ramen trends with the direction of the menu. The main items are tori soba and niboshi soba, or chicken ramen and fish based ramen, respectively. There are a few different variations, such as the chicken based soup using only 'Satsuma Shamo' brand chickens from Kyushu and water. For those preferring some fish umami, a richer niboshi based double soup made with dried fish and animal bones is also on tap. Noodles are ordered via Kanno Seimen and contain whole wheat. One of London’s best pizzerias, @pizzeriamozzalondon by @nancysilverton is closing at the end of this month (24th). The dough and crust are great and the toppings are quality.
