Light lunch at Beef Bar. Their Kobe beef jamón is nuts - ultra rich and decadent with a beautiful mosaic of marbling. It’s Japanese beef, cured in Spain and aged for 18 months in Leon. A journey that allows the flavours to mature and develop. With such a wide selection of beef on the menu it’s difficult to decide what to go for. I usually go heavier on the starters and follow with lighter mains. The bao buns, baby quesadillas and of course their famous croque Sando is a must. These are three starters they have perfected. The jasmine tea smoked veal in the bao buns is delicious - super soft and moreish. Lunch or dinner here isn’t complete without their fior di latte gelato - a velvety smooth textured gelato that hits much like Gaia’s frozen yogurt. Too good #notoriousfoodie 🙅🏽♂️

Hard to go wrong with the Robata at Roka. A quick, easy and consistent Japanese that I find myself coming back to quite alot mid week. The order is usually very simple. Loads from the Robata and plenty of nigiri along with the kampachi + iceberg lettuce salad. On the Robata, the beef skewers and chicken wings are the best imo. The beef is ultra thinly sliced and glazed - it develops the most amazing char and is usually still cooked to medium. Delicious. Baby back ribs are for the most part great - chunky, juicy, smokey.. everything you want in some ribs. Topped with plenty of spring onion, toasted cashews and lime. Had a couple of times they were dried out but usually v good! Anywhere that has a good grill and rice, I’m in #notoriousfoodie 🙅🏽♂️

Some incredible new dishes on the menu at Dorian. The deep fried duck leg dipped in hot sauce was outrageously good, ultra crispy on the outside and super tender in the centre. The flavour of their hot sauce is addictive, a sort of buffalo-esque tang and creaminess with fairly mild heat. Very good. Max sent out a bunch of new rostis. The beef tartare and uni Rosti was ridiculous, as was the caviar and oyster Rosti. Something about all these delicious ingredients sat on a crispy potato Rosti just works so well. The lobster tail French toast was a total hit - grilled and topped with clarified butter, black truffle, sat on relish, lettuce and toasted brioche. What a bite. Pistachio and caviar ice cream was interesting - a wild combination that took everyone by surprise but also kept them coming back for more. It’s dinners like this that keep Dorian in my list of favourites. Bravo chef! Knockouttt #notoriousfoodie 🙅🏽♂️

A lovely lunch at Lisboeta. The menu here is really interesting. It showcases the very best of Portuguese cuisine, using a unique combination of ingredients to yield new types of flavour and depth. The carabinero prawn and cuttlefish rice was the star dish for me. Stunning red prawns, lightly cured and served with the most velvety smooth risotto-style sushi rice. A big focus on ‘wet’ rice over dry here, where Nuno is able to pack in layers upon layers of complexity from the stock through to toppings like their lardo. The confit duck rice was great too with shredded pieces of the confit duck leg scattered throughout the rice. Loved the grilled XL carabinero with sweet potato bread and homemade piri piri. For me the empanadas were a little dense and dry - I think they were crying out for a sauce of some kind, or even more fat in the meat mixture. Flavours were great but texturally I wasn’t sure! For dessert, the Maria biscuit cake with coffee and ice cream - sensational. Cleaned this one up with ease, beautifully presented too #notoriousfoodie 🙅🏽♂️

There’s few things quite as satisfying as the tempura and udon at Koya soho. The jumbo prawn tempura here is spectacular. They manage to create an ultra light, crispy and bubbly tempura batter that has a glass-like crunch. These things are fried till golden and the prawns are just so flavoursome and juicy. I like to sprinkle with sichimi, then throw all the condiments into the shirodashi, dip and eat. Delicious. The udon are freshly made each day too, ultra thick and bouncy with the most amazing chew. The texture is, for me, what makes these the best in London. Very similar to what you would find at a good udon place in Japan. Go here for some of the best hot and cold udon bowls around along with the most perfect tempura #notoriousfoodie 🙅🏽♂️

What a dinner from the all new Lita in Marylebone. The focus here is on live-fire cooking, with a mix of incredible meat, fish and vegetables each having some sort of lick from the flame. The bone-in ribeye was incredible - perfectly cooked and served with a rich and complex beef jus that was still somehow quite light in consistency. The yellow fat caps were well rendered and melted into the jus beautifully. The star dish here for me has to be that tuna though.. just insane. I ordered three plates of it - @atunrojofuentes bluefin, corno peppers, corriander and capers - honestly incredible. It was so fresh with a real kick of balanced acidity and umami. I did a recipe last year with this tuna, it really is the best! Couldn’t get enough of the dressing. The duck ragout was another stand out - slow cooked and pulled duck leg, in a nicely reduced sauce and al dente strozapretti, topped with a mountain of parm. For wine went with a 2016 Clos Rougeard which was a great match for the beef. A solid new addition to the neighbourhood! #notoriousfoodie 🙅🏽♂️

An amazing lunch at Le Bistrot Paul Bert. A bistro of dreams with classic Parisian interiors and a menu to keep you coming back for more. They serve everything from their famous steak au poivre to their insane croque-monsieur loaded with seasonal truffles and the Dover sole meunière. The filet mignon au poivre was excellent - perfectly cooked. So tender, well rested and flavoursome. The sauce was thick and glossy but loose enough to enjoy and dip the crispy frites maison in to. Plenty of black pepper to bring the heat. Dover sole was good but not the best I’ve had - needed more lemon, butter and sea salt. The ouefs au plat à la truffe noir was delicious. Sunny side up eggs, with a truffled cream sauce underneath. Gooey rich egg yolks and an amazing bite all together. This place has real charm and top quality food to match for a classic French bistro. They only use the very best ingredients and so you can expect the freshest rotating plates alongside the classics #notoriousfoodie 🙅🏽♂️

An outstanding dinner. Congrats to these guys on their star - the food and service was excellent all round. This was my second visit and definitely my favourite so far. Opted for the black Angus beef sirloin cooked over Woodfire - a beautiful piece of meat from the one and only @mr_txuleta . Lovely yellow fat that was nicely rendered and really tasty thin slices of beef. I always order a side of beef jus to go along with the potatoes here or at @bratrestaurant - it’s a magical combination. Deeply flavoured and rich. Service was top - the waitress knew the menu and ingredients very well and the sommelier was excellent too, suggesting this fresh Chenin when the one I ordered was sold out. Had a number of other dishes and some fish for main also but will follow up with part 2 separately. Worth a visit! #notoriousfoodie 🙅🏽♂️
