It’s been a while since I last dined at Lurra and I can say without a doubt that things have got even better. This is one of London’s best Basque steakhouses. The beef here is second to none, partly because the man behind it supplies beef to some of the best restaurants in London - so it only makes sense for him to stock the very best at his own place. Ultra premium txuleta of varying ages, dry-aged and mature with the most rich and nutty flavour. Wonderful marbling. The steak here is grilled until it develops a deep crust. It’s then sliced and served rare before being placed on a scorching cast iron where it continues to cook through at the table. This cooking method works beautifully as the fat continues to render in the pan as you’re eating, perfectly coating the beef and becoming even more tender after each bite. I go for the 14-year Rubia Gallega ribeye usually (chose bottom shelf far right). Turbot was delicious. Gelatinous, meaty and flavoursome with a really lovely subtle smokiness coming through. Pan con tomate and jamón Iberico were perfect to start, as were the bone marrow and crab pintxo.
