Dinner at ⭐️ and Thailand’s first but now thankfully not only Michelin green star restaurant 🍀 @prurestaurant in Phuket, now stunningly relocated from the beautiful Trisara resort to an incredible perch overlooking the Andaman Sea but still within a stones throw of the resort.
I was truly blown away by the new dining room and counter where I was able to enjoy the first snacks whilst watching the sun slowly set behind the bustling open kitchen. The food that executive chef and co-owner Jimmy Ophorst together with head chef Flo and the team produce very much lives up to the setting. A tasting menu of innovative creations embraced the best and sometimes least utilised ingredients from across Thailand, sometimes ingredients that even the locals may not be familiar with. It’s always great to dine in a restaurant that is pushing in that direction and not afraid to take risks.
Highly recommended, and again if you are on a lesser budget as I was there are plenty of comfortable accommodation options just 5 minutes down the hill at Natai beach. However, if you can then I can also highly recommend the Trisara resort itself.

Recommended bowl: Local niboshi

A casual ramen shop with a variety of bowls, not far from Oami station. The base soup stock is made using niboshi sourced from the local waters off the coast of Chiba. There are a few types of ramen, tsukemen, and spicy versions. Fried gyoza as well. The halal chicken wings were straight fire and if you don’t want a platter or a gyro, just order them with fries and white sauce.

A heavyweight happy hour hop, continued downtown at the beautiful bar at @saintjohnnola

Happy hour is daily (closed Tues.) 3-6 pm, for that early start, and has a menu of interesting dishes well beyond snacks.

Daily crudo ($10), muffuletta bruschetta ($7), and mussels ($10) with fries that’s a meal unto itself.

Good deals in drinks too, starting with the $5 martini. Or Jameson & High Life for $5…decisions will be made.

This is right across the street from the good deals at @desivegasteaks too (see earlier post) for a two-course happy hour combo.

Sister brand to the much-loved “Flower Drum”, “Fat J Char Siu” opened in Wan Chai earlier this year, offering premium Cantonese roast meats in a casual setting with shared seating❤️‍🔥 I arrived at 11:30am for the 12pm opening and was first in line; most people started queuing around 11:45🕛 By the time I finished, there was a long queue around the block, despite it being a weekday lunch👥

I opted for their signature“叉燒雙蘭王蛋飯” (Char Siu & Double Ranou Egg with Rice, HK$88) - honey-glazed chestnut-fed Spanish pork char siu with smoky edges, topped with two sunny-side-up eggs over rice🐖 I also upgraded to pork belly char siu for an additional HK$5🍖 Overall, it was a solid lunch - while I’m not sure I’d queue in this heat again, it’s definitely worth trying once the initial hype settles down🌤️
