A few snaps from dinner at Apollo, the new all-day bistro on Palm. The menu here is comfort-food driven, but with a lifted touch on the classics - think steak frites au poivre, vodka calamarata and veal Milanese. Dishes you can count on. Beyond that, plenty of playful plates too, like duck Arayes, pastrami on crispy rice and fried chicken waffles. The vodka calamarata with stracciatella was solid here. Bouncy pasta with a really well balanced, creamy vodka sauce that had just enough sweetness and heat. The tuna nayyeh was top too - spiced tuna tartare served on grilled and buttered flatbread. Delicious stuff. The chicken tikka skewers were thoroughly seasoned and smokey, but the standout for me was their ceviche. Sharp, clean and perfectly balanced - a good ceviche is hard to beat in my eyes - a whirlwind of flavours and textures. When you’re in the mood for comfort and creativity, this is the spot. A landmark Cantonese restaurant in Leicester Square has been serving authentic Dim Sum and Cantonese cuisine for over 45 years. Renowned for introducing Dim Sum to London in the 1977s, it remains a cornerstone of the city’s culinary scene. The food is delicious and the service is excellent, very friendly and great value for money. What we ordered

Arroz de coquelet. Morrillo de atún.

Lobito de Mar sigue en su línea de regularidad habitual. Todo cumple aunque, en esta última visita, encontré la cocina menos afinada y un cierto “automatismo” en los platos y la oferta en general. Entradas correctas, en la línea de siempre, bien servidas. Menos me gustaron los segundos: ni el arroz de coquelet, con la pieza pasada de cocción y un fondo indefinido, ni el morrillo, aceptable pero acompañado de unas patatas con una salsa que tapaba el conjunto. La carta de vinos vuela alto en precios pero hay botellas interesantes, con añadas y se sirven en buenas copas. Nada que objetar al servicio, notable y con ganas de agradar. @lobitodemardg Less

There’s always a bit of Robuchon in the rooms where his alumni land. You may recognize many of his signatures, like the uniform ring of dots as precise as a watch face and the foie-stuffed game bird. But at Gaddi’s, the luster of place takes over.

Seventy two years on, there’s still nothing quite like dinner at the Peninsula Hong Kong’s crown jewel: the discreet private elevator; the blue Tai Ping carpets; the generous acreage between tables, so wide you could snake a tuk-tuk through; the centerpiece of chandelier, as big as palm tree at full mast; the mister and his mistress at Table Four canoodling over caviar and Krug; and the live band enabling these naughty advances. Gaddi’s is where servers take hospitality seriously and who happily field requests for rowdier songs like the ‘Power of Love’. No one, alas, comes here to be judged. Not even the (apparently) single Mr. King.

Those who take food seriously, as they often do here, will find ab accessible, mostly a la carte menu peddling old-school classics, with refreshingly sizable entrées you rarely see in Michelin rooms these days — outside of, say, Le Cinq or L’Ambroisie. Yes, the restaurant’s latest chef, @nicolas.annesophie , is a Robuchon disciple, but the foundation of her training shows up most in the precision of her cooking. Consider the taut, glossy jus; the uniform bronzing on those shatteringly-crisp, potato-wrapped paupiettes; the trio of celtuce, tournéed into miniature canoes, escorting sweet, judiciously poached langoustines.

But Nicolas, unlike her predecessors, smuggles in notes of levity here and there. Which means beneath those heavy, silver cloches and the familiar choreography, you’ll find bearnaise with an electrifying snap or an undercurrent of provencal-ian brightness, like a delicate crab tart set over tomato gelée.

I’ve been lucky to have eaten at Gaddi’s over two decades, and though there have been lulls, I’m happy to report that the kitchen is back in tune, and that the captains still straighten a fork by feel. Less

We usually celebrate our anniversary @fioladc, but this year there was a special surprise. They took us to the rooftop as the sun was setting and chef and owner @fabiotrabocchi was there to greet us and wish us well. It was truly touching and brought back a flood of beautiful memories.

Dinner downstairs was spectacular, thanks to the always gracious staff and @chefantoniomermolia’s extraordinary cooking. Bread piping hot out of the oven, the most divine oysters I’ve ever had, gossamer-like gnocchi, exquisite lamb.

They even brought out cake lollipops, a reference to our wedding there in 2013. Fiola is eating better than ever. A memory we will never forget. Less

Southern barbecue bragging rights are official! 🐖🔥 Southern Living just crowned @citylimitsq the best BBQ spot in the South. A few days before the list dropped, I was in line for over an hour in West Columbia—and yes, every minute was worth it.

This isn’t hype… chopped pork with those crispy skins, rice & hash (a #SCBBQ must), and hoppin’ John keep me coming back. I’ve stood in line for nearly two hours here before, and I’d do it again tomorrow.

I’ve been to quite of few of the joints made the cut, but I’ll say it—leaving out Owens & Hull is a miss. Big, big oversight! Still, no complaints with City Limits sitting on top.

Wanted to share some personal photos from my Top 50 Restaurants of Long Island search this year … 2025 is the third year I’ve worked on this list, and like usual I ate at dozens of contenders throughout the year. The photos you see here are places that ended up making the list after serious discussion with @mariesworldeats , @erica_marcus and @melireports. They were the obvious choices we didn’t have to fight about, lol.

My biggest goal this time was to diversify the list to include a wider selection of Central, South American and Caribbean cuisines. Because I definitely think this is one of New York’s greatest culinary strengths. Happy to get some Cuban, Dominican and Jamaican food on there!
