The order was to taste the red female spleen first, followed by the male soft roe. Contrary to its appearance, the spleen had a light flavor. My favorite remains the "female white liver." The atmosphere felt just like a BBQ, but the chicken served was exceptionally authentic.Omi jidori is characterized by its light fat and rich flavor of the meat itself. We were able to enjoy not only the standard cuts but also some rare parts that are hard to find elsewhere.First, we started with three appetizers: Bang Bang Chicken, crispy chicken skin kara-age, and shamo (Japanese gamecock) simmered in soy sauce. From the refreshing Bang Bang Chicken to the crispy chicken skin and the rich-flavored simmered dish, I was completely satisfied with the chicken-centric start. It was a dish that truly showcased the restaurant's skill.Next, we had the straw-grilled tataki, which left a strong impression on me. The surface was nicely charred while the inside was moist and rare. Then came the Omi jidori assorted platter, where the real grilling began. We enjoyed a variety of cuts, including thigh, breast, gizzard, liver, heart, bonjiri (tail), neck meat, spleen, kidney, and chicken wings.Among them, the comb was particularly impressive. It had a unique, plump texture that was surprisingly different from any chicken I had eaten before. It’s not often that you get the chance to compare so many parts of a single chicken, making for a delightful experience. This course is priced at JPY 4,300. To enjoy such a diverse selection of Omi jidori at this price is quite reasonable.Next time, I would love to dine indoors and take my time. Less

It was delicious! The hospitality and atmosphere were great as well! I might even prefer the appetizer of spleen pâté over regular liver pâté. The sashimi was flavorful and tasty. The hot pot had a rich broth, and every part was delicious. The tsukune (chicken meatballs) had a nice garlic punch. The Islay malt for JPY 700 was an incredible deal!
At the end of our trip in Nagoya, we enjoyed a chicken sukiyaki meal. We compared the male and female chicken; I preferred the male for its firmer texture, while my wife liked the softer female. When I was asked to crack an egg, I was surprised to find it contained twins! The portion of chicken sukiyaki was quite generous, and they even made onigiri with the leftover rice for us to enjoy on the Shinkansen.
This is a very famous chicken restaurant located in Otsu City, Shiga Prefecture. I made a reservation for the all-you-can-eat course on Sunday. Two appetizers were served, followed by the all-you-can-eat menu. The portions were quite large, so I was completely full. This is a must-visit restaurant when in Shiga Prefecture.
This time, I enjoyed the "Omi Jidori Premium" at the counter seat. The charm of this course lies in the ability to savor various parts of the chicken, from head to toe, prepared in different cooking styles. This time, I enjoyed the "Omi Jidori Premium" at the counter seat. The charm of this course lies in the ability to savor various parts of the chicken, from head to toe, prepared in different cooking styles. Starting with an appetizer, it continues with sashimi, grilled dishes, fried items, and skewers, allowing you to appreciate the unique characteristics of each part as you progress through the meal. This time, among the appetizers, I also had the seasonal special hot pot featuring fresh "Junsai" from Sanchu Town in Akita Prefecture, which is only available for a limited time. Until now, I had only eaten Junsai boiled in water, so the fresh texture of it was a delightful surprise. While the quality of the Omi Jidori chicken is certainly impressive, the meticulous cooking and preparation techniques also leave a lasting impression. The direct management from the poultry farm allows for a deep understanding of the characteristics and handling of each part, which is conveyed through the dishes.Even with the same jidori chicken, the experience varies greatly between sashimi, grilled dishes, fried items, and skewers. The course is structured in a way that naturally lets you enjoy these differences throughout the meal. The seasonal rice cooked in a clay pot alone provides a satisfying experience, but it continues with ramen in chicken broth afterward. Even though I always end up full, I find myself looking forward to this ramen. The quantity and variety of the course are considerably more generous compared to typical restaurants. It might feel heavy for those with smaller appetites, but I believe this is how the essence of the restaurant, which has been passed down from the previous generation, takes shape. The comfort of the counter seats is also one of the attractions. There’s a pleasant distance with the staff, and sometimes I exchange words with neighboring customers who are enjoying the course at the same time. While focusing on the food, I still feel a sense of comfort. As I visit more frequently, I gradually notice the craftsmanship and efforts that I hadn’t seen before. Even when enjoying the same course, there are seasonal ingredients and subtle changes that provide reasons to return.I hear that they will celebrate their 20th anniversary in June 2026. As a long-time patron, I sincerely congratulate them. I look forward to continuing to enjoy Omi Jidori chicken in this place for years to come. Less

I first heard the name "Onza" at a yakitori restaurant. Intrigued, I looked into making a reservation several times but was unsuccessful. "We should go someday," I said to my partner about "Onza." Over ten years have passed since then. I discovered the name "Onza" through a notification from Tabelog. I adjusted my schedule and successfully made a reservation. With great anticipation, I visited. ■ Appetizers Starting from the top left: Chicken with sesame sauce, simmered vegetables, and duck pancetta. In the center, there’s a Japanese omelet and young sweetfish. To the right, smoked chicken breast and raw ham from the thigh. A delightful selection showcasing the Umami of Omi jidori chicken. With each bite, I savored the rich flavor unique to this free-range chicken. ■ Sashimi Sashimi of female Omi jidori chicken. In the front left is grilled thigh meat. In the back center is the breast, and to the right is the tenderloin. The texture is firm and bouncy. As the fibers of the meat break apart, a delicate sweetness spreads and melts quietly in my mouth. With just salt and wasabi, the flavors are beautifully highlighted. ■ Two Grilled Dishes - Salt-grilled Chicken Wings From the moment the dish arrives, a tantalizing aroma wafts through the air. Crispy skin with juicy meat. The rich flavor, concentrated by grilling, fills my mouth completely. - Charcoal-Grilled Skewers A skewer that allows you to enjoy the esophagus, lymph nodes, and trachea. The richness of the fat near the skin combines with a crunchy texture and a chewy bite. It’s a rare part to experience, quite interesting. After savoring the various parts of Omi jidori chicken, the main event arrives: the hot pot. ■ Junsei Hot Pot A hot pot made with female Nagoya Cochin chicken. A clear broth made from chicken bones. Layered with dashi from bonito and kombu, seasoned with soy sauce, it has a familiar taste. Starting with the fish balls, followed by green onions, burdock, mushrooms, and finally the thigh meat. Once it’s cooked, junsei and watercress are added to complete the dish. After serving, I took a sip of the broth first. The gentle outline of soy sauce combined with the rich depth of Nagoya Cochin chicken. The umami from the dashi and ingredients overlaps, creating a profound flavor. Adding junsei gives the broth a smooth texture. The plump texture and slippery finish are delightful. The chicken, along with various ingredients, releases its umami, enriching the hot pot. While chatting about trivial matters, we enjoyed the delicious hot pot together. Perfect for a slightly chilly evening. For the finale, instead of Inaniwa udon, we had Inaniwa ramen. Slurping it up was immensely satisfying. ■ Dessert Matcha ice cream adorned with dried mango and konpeito. A sprinkle of coffee powder adds a touch of bitterness, elegantly concluding the meal. A wonderful course that allows you to fully appreciate the charm of chicken. Both the taste and portion size were very satisfying. Next time, I’d like to try the sukiyaki for a "comparison of male and female." I wonder if I can get a reservation. Less

The counter offers a creative course featuring this chicken, but it's extremely popular, making reservations quite difficult. This time, I enjoyed sashimi, yakitori, and a water shield hot pot. The yakitori made from Omi jidori chicken had a beautiful fat content and a strong umami flavor, making it delicious. The hot pot featured Nagoya Cochin chicken, which had a nice texture and also packed with flavor. The vegetables soaked in a soy-based broth made from chicken cartilage were exceptional, with the chicken's umami and fat enriching the soup. I arrived 70 minutes before the reservation time (opening time) to ensure parking availability at the restaurant's attached parking lot and waited there until opening. Perhaps due to the attached poultry farm, this was a BBQ-style course exclusive to the terrace seating, offering cuts that are hard to find elsewhere. This time, I visited a restaurant that was a BRONZE selection. The many BRONZE selection restaurants I’ve visited in the past have consistently exceeded the level of the Top 100, leaving me in a state of constant amazement! Given this background, I had high expectations, but while the meat quality was indeed good, it didn’t quite reach the level of "Wow, this is exceptional!" The appetizers and grilled dishes, which require cooking skills, were rather ordinary. As for the service, it was simply outstanding! Although the course was reasonably priced for the restaurant, there seemed to be no difference in service quality based on price. The staff were friendly, kind, and provided a very pleasant experience. Less

The decor is charming and playful. Here is the course menu we enjoyed today:Omi Chicken Feast Course - Grilled with Binchotan Charcoal○ 3 Appetizers- Omi Chicken Breast with Bang Bang Sauce- Fried Omi Chicken Skin- Simmered Omi Shamo Chicken○ Grilled Omi Chicken with Straw - Breast and Thigh○ Various Cuts of Omi Chicken (shared)(Thigh, Back Liver, Gizzard, Hanging Tender, Bonjiri, Comb, Tail Skin, Kidney, Heart, Neck Meat, Chicken Wings)○ Clay Pot Rice○ Rice with Raw Egg○ Matcha Ice Cream, Mango Yogurt, and KonpeitoThis chicken restaurant, adjacent to a poultry farm and a live chicken specialty store, offers a farm-to-table experience.A few personal thoughts...The meat quality is juicy and has a nice bounce. Grilled over Binchotan charcoal, the flavors are locked in and expand in your mouth with each bite. You can enjoy everything from the "comb" to the "tail."I thoroughly enjoyed the Omi Chicken. I will definitely visit again. It was a great meal! Less
The signature Jidori Sukiyaki is impressive, starting with the high quality of the meat. It has a firm texture, yet becomes tender when cooked, releasing a burst of flavor. The dipping sauce is perfectly balanced, not too strong, enhancing the natural taste of the Jidori chicken. When combined with the egg, it creates a richer and creamier flavor. The vegetables and side dishes are also carefully prepared, maintaining a high level of satisfaction throughout the meal.Parking is conveniently available... I visited "Jidoriya Onza," a recipient of the Tabelog Award 2026 Bronze.Today, I enjoyed the following courses:- "Omi Jidori Premium" JPY 8,000 (tax included)- "Japanese Sake Pairing" JPY 450 per glass (tax included)I added the popular counter course, limited to 6 guests per day, along with the sake pairing. There were so many dishes that I’ll focus on a few highlights:◇ Assorted Appetizers (Chicken breast from a female bird in Bang Bang style, gizzard from a male bird, and simmered heart from a female bird)◇ New Onion and White Soup Potage → The rich new onion paired with perfectly seasoned chicken ham was outstanding.◇ Sashimi (5 varieties) White Meat - Right: Female chicken breast - Left: Female chicken tender - Center: Male testicles (soft roe) Red Meat - Right: Male gizzard - Left: Female spleen The order was from red to white meat, and I was instructed to eat the testicles and spleen with just salt. Each piece was rich and flavorful, with the soft roe melting in my mouth. I was already satisfied at this point with the incredible sashimi.◇ Five-Item Platter - Left: Miso-marinated liver from a female bird - Left: Liver pâté made from spleen - Center: Tokyo mushrooms tossed with salt, pepper, and olive oil - Right: Smoked thigh meat from a female bird (high temperature, short time) - Right: Smoked breast meat from a male bird (low temperature, long time)◇ Sashimi (3 varieties) Liver and gizzard (red) served with salt, pepper, and olive oil. The quality of the ingredients was so high that the seasoning actually enhanced the flavors! The crunchy texture of the gizzard was fantastic, and the melting liver was incredibly delicious.◇ Hearts from male and female birds Enjoyed with sesame oil. How fresh it was...◇ Thigh meat from a female bird, served with kumquat The thigh meat was made into a tartare and paired with kumquat. It was rich and deep in flavor, truly a masterpiece worthy of being called art. I was overwhelmed with emotion...◇ Grilled thigh meat from a female bird over straw◇ Male comb resembling sea cucumber (with ponzu)◇ Female chicken wings ◇ Female kara-age ◇ Dashi-maki (using Nagoya Cochin fertile eggs and white soup)◇ Grilled bonjiri from a female bird◇ Jidori Hamburg Steak ◇ Grilled chicken One side was rare, and the combination of charcoal and salt was perfect, showcasing the deliciousness of Jidoriya Onza's chicken.◇ Skewers (including neck, lymph, and trachea all on one skewer)◇ Skewers (outside skirt)◇ Pea rice with chicken white soup◇ Omi Jidori white soup ramen (with Kadoya Shokudo noodles)This course was incredibly filling. With one beer and four glasses of sake, the total was JPY 10,400. This level of cost performance is unbelievable in these times...The freshness and taste of the dishes were truly impressive. I was particularly blown away by the deliciousness of the sashimi. It’s no wonder they can achieve this, as they own their own poultry farm.I was so moved that my standards for food have now risen. What a delightful dilemma!Thank you very much. Here, you can enjoy grilled chicken on the terrace or hot pot dishes inside the restaurant. It has been recognized as one of the top 100 chicken restaurants in 2025 and has also been awarded Tabelog Bronze from 2017 to 2026.Previously, reservations were only accepted by phone on the first Friday of each month, but recently online reservations have become available, making it easier to secure a table. The restaurant also has a spacious dedicated parking lot, making it convenient to visit by car. Here’s what I ordered this time:-----------------------------◾️ Assorted AppetizersTo start, I had an appetizer platter featuring Bang Bang chicken made with Awami jidori chicken breast, crispy chicken skin kara-age, and shigureni (simmered chicken) made with Tokyo shamo. The crispy and juicy kara-age, the spicy Bang Bang chicken, and the firm texture of the shigureni were all of high quality, raising my expectations for the rest of the course.◾️ Grilled Awami Jidori ChickenThis dish features thigh and breast meat from Awami jidori chicken grilled over straw. The rich and sticky flavor of the chicken, combined with the fragrant aroma of the straw grilling and the scent of shiso, made it absolutely delicious!◾️ Grilled VegetablesA generous platter of grilled vegetables, including large cuts of onion, bell pepper, and king oyster mushrooms. Grilling them on a charcoal grill at the terrace adds a unique smoky flavor that enhances their taste.◾️ Awami Jidori Chicken ComparisonA comparison of grilled Awami jidori chicken with sauce and salt. While there is an all-you-can-eat course featuring various parts of the chicken, I recommend the comparison focusing on thigh and breast meat if you’re not fond of offal. The chicken marinated in green onion salt had a perfect balance of saltiness that highlighted the rich umami of the meat, making it incredibly tasty. The chicken coated in a sweet and spicy sauce was also rich and juicy, making it a perfect match with white rice!◾️ Clay Pot RiceUsing a brand of rice called Milky Queen, this clay pot rice has a delightful chewy texture. They serve a generous portion that is more than enough, but it pairs excellently with the grilled chicken, so it disappears quickly.◾️ Egg SoupA sweet egg soup filled with fresh eggs and onions. It serves as a comforting side dish to enjoy between bites of clay pot rice and grilled chicken.◾️ DessertThe course concluded with a colorful dessert featuring matcha ice cream topped with yogurt-marinated mango and konpeito (sugar candy).-----------------------------With relatively reasonable prices, you can fully enjoy delicious chicken, so I highly recommend visiting!Thank you for the meal!*Instagram Gourmet Account https://www.instagram.com/shunsuke.naka/ (Over 10,000 followers!)*Gourmet Blog https://syn-gourmet.com*Comprehensive Links https://lit.link/syngourmet Less
