Recommended bowl: Unique paitan

Master Sekikawa-san trained at multiple ramen shops for almost a decade before opening his own place. Three different main bowls are served here: ika-niboshi, tai-paitan and tsukemen. The tsukemen is a tonkotsu-gyokai soup. The ika-niboshi is a dried squid-based clear soup, and the tai-paitan is made from sea bream fish and chicken. The noodles are from Mirakami-Asashi Seimen. Unique bowls and an experienced master make this one worth checking out. Less

Another visit to 🍀 @jamparestaurant in Phuket, sister restaurant to ⭐️🍀 Pru and well worth a visit if you come to Phuket. @chefrickdingen Rick Dingen’s delicious cooking is focused on local produce with a large proportion of it coming from the restaurant’s own farm and gardens. Animal welfare is also a key component of Rick’s philosophy with, for example, chickens that are only used for producing eggs and once they stop producing they are free to live out their lives with the other chickens rather than being slaughtered. A tasting menu or A La Carte menu is complemented by a natural leaning wine list and also inventive cocktails. If you do book then I recommend you ask to take a tour of the farm. This is also very handy for Phuket airport. Following lunch here I took a 15 minute taxi to the airport and was back in Bangkok in time for dinner. Highly recommended.

Horiuchi is run by Horiuchi-san, who apprenticed at Manrai, which is located just a few feet away. Horiuchi and Manrai serve almost the exact same menu— a chicken and pork-based soup with a salty shoyu tare. The ramen and tsukemen are both popular, as well as the chashumen, which comes piled with meat. There's also a natto ramen available for fermented bean lovers. Less

And to begin, a pre-dinner drink at @thefrench75bar , inside the restaurant but its own portal to the belle époque.

But it’s not all tradition here these days.

The restaurant is actively courting a younger clientele.

Aren’t we all, right?

But for the French Creole showboats, it’s vital.

They are unique to New Orleans, steeped in history and tradition. For that to continue, these places also must be relevant to successive generations looking for places to dine out, bring their celebrations and make their own traditions.

Hence Arnaud’s summer campaign.

Through August, they continue a 30% discount for “young professionals” on certain nights.

And daily happy hour at both bars (yes, there are are two…)

This week, starting July 28 through Sept 7, the French 75 gets a make over with @moetchandon , in a Euro beach resort theme (add lobster rolls).

And another wine-soaked Friday rose lunch is coming up August 22 with a DJ in the dining room and Jell-O shots to start and (probably) more cafe brulot.
