The green salsa was just as spicy and the pork enchiladas just as satisfying under a lacy pull of cheese. But it wasn’t just the merengue music playing on the sound system that felt especially upbeat.

@taqueriaguerrero17 reopened this week after a hiatus of about five weeks that carried uncertainty of when it might return amid the Border Patrol’s campaign in the area.

After it announced plans to temporarily shutter, people packed the small Mid-City spot on its final weekend in a show of support. They lined the block waiting their turn for a table until the restaurant sold out of food.

The reopening has seen a steadier return to its normal pace, and that’s exactly what owner Jesus Martínez hoped would happen.

The regular progression of familiar faces coming back has been a welcome sight, he told me.

The return means one of my favorite soups is back, the pozole rojo, as is a part of neighborhood life that’s been a Mid-City touchstone since the early post Katrina days.

Houston’s Brisket & Rice blends classic Texas BBQ with Asian-inspired flavors, all served in a casual, friendly atmosphere. They’re known for smoky, tender meats and hearty comfort food. We came hungry and tried a little bit of everything, and it all delicious. We can’t stop thinking about the pork ribs. Absolutely amazing.

1/2 lb house sausage
Banana pudding

Pro tip for parents: The restaurant is down the street from Funbox. Take the kids there first, and they’ll be ready to dig in by lunch!

The Four Horsemen continues to set a standard for thoughtful, quietly confident cooking, paired with one of the most compelling wine programs in the city. Everything was delicious, cooked with love, and genuinely fun to eat.

Tucked in the heart of Chinatown, @1915handpulled_noodles offers must-have handmade noodles in NYC! The restaurant features an open kitchen where guests can see their fresh noodles being made to order, which has been in place for over 100 years. We loved the fresh, chewy texture of the noodles that can be customized to each bowl and the menu features a variety of dumplings, wontons, and small plates to round out the meal!

With 3 Michelin stars and a ranking of #33 in World’s 50 best , all expectations were that Steirereck would be the best dining experience in Vienna. Fair to say those expectations were met and blown out of the water .

A deeply seasonal menu which focused on citrus and bitter greens, at no point felt repetitive, the acidity on each preparation kept things fresh and balanced which was welcome on a very cold sub zero day .
Sauces and proteins were entirely successful , fair to say that in the land of Mozart, no false note was played .

Standout courses were the catfish and puntarella - the bitter veggie was balanced with candied citrus and ginger , the fish was a light blank canvas .

The sweetbread dish followed similar DNA this time using finger lime for acidity , along with tangerine to match the bitter kale notes .

A flawless duck breast was also a highlight , with a nice layer of rendered fat remaining beneath the crisp duck skin. Superb technique.

Bread, cheese and citrus trolleys also added to the fun and engagement of the meal .

Would return to @steirereck in a heartbeat , in fact I’m about to return for breakfast .
