Recommended bowl: Tokyo's oldest reborn

Originally opened by master Ozaki-san in Asakusa in 1910, considered by many to be the first Tokyo ramen shop. The business closed in 1976, before its renewal opening at the Shin-Yokohama Ramen Museum in October 2020. The shop is produced in collaboration with Shinasobaya, who developed the menu with Ozaki-san's grandson Takahashi-san, and now the only living person who can still remember the taste of the original Rairaiken in Asakusa. The original Tokyo ramen is made with a shoyu based soup containing chickens, pork and vegetables. Aodake Teuchi noodles are handmade with a bamboo pole using wheat from Nagano Prefecture. I’ve come to understand @palmandpinenola as essentially an upscale/casual neighborhood restaurant for the French Quarter, which, at some point, everyone in New Orleans can regard as their old neighborhood.

Whether showing visitors around or coming for our own celebrations, spring is rife with such reasons to revisit the Quarter, and this restaurant feels in sync with the good energy of the neighborhood at its best.

Jiro style at Ramen Jiro in Nakayama. Salty tonkotsu-shoyu soup, thick cut noodles house-made on the customary Ebisu brand noodle machine. Extra garlic, veggies, tare drizzle. This branch is known to have special topping options that sometimes rotate, for example kimchi (via ticket machine) and sesame wakame (free by request on garlic call).
