🍂 Fall flavors have arrived at @johnnydswaffles and you won’t want to miss this! 🍂

This National Pumpkin Day, I treated myself to the LIMITED-TIME pumpkin spice waffle at Johnny D’s in Myrtle Beach – and wow, @chefjamiedaskalis took me straight back to my childhood! The taste reminded me of the pumpkin bread my mom and nana make every year, filling me with the warmest, coziest nostalgia.

Each waffle is made with dehydrated pumpkin powder and a special blend of spices, including cinnamon, allspice, and brown sugar, mixed into their signature house-made batter. The texture is moist and almost cake-like, with an optional sprinkle of pecans that adds the perfect nutty crunch.

If you’re a pumpkin lover, this waffle is a must-try! 🎃

I highly recommend easing into the weekend @layersgreenlake. Unwind by candlelight on Friday and Saturday evenings with a beer, a session cocktail, a glass of wine and complimentary chips and olives, or make a meal of small plates. I loved the salad of apple, fennel and Beecher's cheese swathed in cashew cream, the charred broccoli nestled in 'nduja aioli, and rosy slices of speck ham with marcona almonds. Dessert was a lush cormeal cake with lemon curd and kumquats. It's so good you won't want to share it, so order one for each of you and another glass of wine. After all, it's the weekend.

The crudo at Mirador is immaculately balanced (in flavor and plating), and the lighting at this penthouse perch is spectacular, too. I’ve never met a bowl of fishball and minced meat noodles that I disliked. The Singapore staple combines the virtues of a bolognese (the ‘ragu’; those satiny noodles as wide as tagliatelle; the umami-ish ketchup that hits back palette), tonkotsu ramen (the lard-slicked, meaty undertones) and wonton noodles (the vinegar that cuts through the richness). For $5.

There’s far more to it, though, and the city’s vaunted spots reveal that superlatives may apply. The one at Ah Hua deserves your attention: the noodles have softened to a texture past al dente, without losing its spring; the heady-enough sauce is a controlled cobble of sweet, sour, fatty, and heat; and those fishballs — fresh threadfin, hand-ground every morning, I’m told — prove that made-from-scratch is still a virtue.

It’s emblematic of the craft that Ah Hua embraces, the kind that few follow. Consider No. 25 Minced Meat Noodle. The concoction is a more head-spinning meld, yielding a darker, richer sauce, while the noodles have a firmer bite. Like the one at Ah Hua, it delivers the kind of elemental pleasure that immediately warrants a reorder. Spent the weekend in Halifax doing my favourite thing — eating! There are so many restaurants in @queensmarque now it’s mind-blowing, I basically didn’t walk further than 100m outside of my hotel the whole weekend and dined very well. There’s a reel coming, but here are some highlights:

1. Warm Mushroom Salad @peacockwinebar.hfx with sunchoke puree and roasted Concord grapes
2. Monte Cristo Breakfast Butty @drifthalifax inside the @muirhotelhalifax was a marriage of Monte Cristo sandwich and brown sugar French toast
3. The Sashimi Bowl @toridori.hfx, and those fantastic egg rolls in the background with a cranberry sweet and sour sauce
4. The Red Sky cocktail @bkshfx, the @muirhotelhalifax’s speakeasy! A delicious sparkling storm of tequila, mezcal, sea buckthorn, red wine, chambord and citric acid
5. Oyster-on-oyster-on-oyster @mystichalifax with an edible oyster shell, poached oysters, smoked oyster aioli and caviar
6. Baby halibut also at @mystichalifax the most tender, melt-in-your-mouth fish I’ve ever eaten, with little pops of Parisienne gnocchi, leek, smoke mussel, goldenrod butter Less

We've found a lot of good places to eat in Madison, WI 🍽️, but few "run, don't walk" 🏃‍♂️💨 quality. That changed today at @casettakitchen, just a bit off the square. The Paradigm: "Spicy soppressata, mozzarella, spicy tomato vinaigrette, mayo, arugula, roasted peppers" 🥪🔥. In-house focaccia bread is fantastic 🍞👌. I noticed how great the mozzarella was, then remembered, oh yeah, we’re in Wisconsin 🧀💡. On special occasions, they make their own cheese, but otherwise it's locally sourced! 🧑‍🍳🍴

You know this complaint – I'd like more meat, but the bread is so good, maybe the decent amount of meat let it shine 🌟. Big fan of the pasta fagioli soup too 🍲👍. Also, a solid house-made chocolate chip cookie 🍪😋. Trip #3, close to 30 meals in Madtown, and this is top 5 or better 🔝. We don’t waste a meal EVER! 💯

🎄🎅CHRISTMAS HAS ARRIVED @the_foundry_bell_wokingham ! [PR Invite]

I was recently invited to try the stunning Christmas menu at a local pub in Wokingham! I took a friend and we had a wonderful evening! Shout out to Jade who looked after us, she was so lovely and nothing was too much trouble!

The Christmas set menu is £40pp and totally worth it. To be honest, if anything, it was too much food! I've attached the menu in the final pic for you to peruse....but we had:

Duck Scotch Egg & Pumpkin Soup to start, we both had the turkey main (Stuffing had orange in it which being totally honest we weren't fans of, but everything else was on point 👌🏼) and desserts we had chocolate moose and treale pudding!

Oh, and we were also served warm bread with HONEYCOMB butter.. yes you read that right. I don't know why it worked, but it did!

All in all it was a great evening! Wonderful food, impeccable service and great company!

The last time I met @chefshahnawazqureshi was about 10 years ago he had just taken over the kitchen at Saffron at JW Marriott, Juhu. He’s since returned to Lucknow where he runs a successful food business involved in restaurant consulting, catering, and has his own spice brand.
For the 10-day festival at Malang @courtyardbymarriottnavimumbai he’s put together a classic Awadhi menu. There’s the unusual Santra ka Shorba with orange segments and an interesting array of kebabs including the soft Galawati Kebab, the popular Lucknowi Seekh Kebab, and two of my favourites the Nadru Ki Shammi and the Dahi Ke Kebab.
The Koh-e-Awadh, tender lamb shanks in a silky smooth spiced korma was as good as the best I’ve tasted and there was also the unusual Lagan ka Murg, with chicken in a poppy seed and cashew paste gravy. A new dish for me was the Majlisi Khichda, never tried this Lucknowi-style khichda before.
For me, the breads of Lucknow have always been far more magical than the kebabs and kormas. Both the Khamiri Roti and the Ulta Tawa Paratha were excellent.
I’m not sure when I’ll next venture into the distant land of Navi Mumbai next, but I’m glad I made it for this festival.
Malang-e-Awadh will continue till 18th November.
