The moment I took a bite, I couldn't help but smile at the deliciousness. In a good way, everything exceeded my expectations in terms of quality and taste. You can see the attention to detail. Nishi-Azabu AoInstagram: pateknautilus40 https://www.instagram.com/pateknautilus40/Thank you for taking a look. I would appreciate your "likes," "follows," and "saves" of the restaurant.I revisited Ao, a restaurant in Nishi-Azabu that has won the Tabelog Award 2026 Gold and is also recognized as one of the top 100 restaurants. I always look forward to dining here.Recently, Chef Minemura has been welcoming guests outside the restaurant, which makes me feel a bit embarrassed. I apologize for making him wait until just before the scheduled time on this particularly hot day. Here are the dishes I enjoyed that day, along with my thoughts:"Ehime, from Mr. Fujimoto: Nerve-processed Hamo Consommé" Tonight, we had Hamo Consommé—rich and delicious from the start!"From Mr. Fujimoto: Chilled Fettuccine with Red Sea Urchin" The rich red sea urchin fettuccine is such a luxury! It’s incredibly delicious!"Ehime, from Mr. Fujimoto: Nerve-processed Managatsuo (Skipjack Tuna) with Straw Grilling, Tomato Sauce from Nakano in Yoichi, Hokkaido" The Managatsuo has belly meat in the front and back meat in the back. The rare meat pairs perfectly with the tomato sauce and wasabi, making it exquisite."From Sado: Black Abalone with Homemade Butter and Lotus Root Trio" The abalone is delicious, but the lotus root is sweet and enhanced by the butter’s richness—so tasty! The soup is also wonderful."From Nagai Sakana-nin, Mr. Hasegawa: Red Shrimp and Bisque" This is a classic specialty. With this shrimp and bisque, I could eat as many as I want (laughs)."Freshly Baked Brioche" I believe this is the most delicious brioche in Japan."From Kanazawa, Ishiyo: Hairy Crab Risotto" It’s even more delicious when wrapped in Kontobi seaweed."Corn Soup from Mr. Kijitani" The center features tomato extract jelly. This rich soup highlights the sweetness of the corn."From Nagai Sakana-nin, Mr. Hasegawa: Nerve-processed Kuro-mutsu (Black Mutsu), Today's Preparation" "From Kuramitsu Farm: Granita of Kishu Nanko Plum" A granita with a perfect balance of sweetness and acidity. It refreshes the palate and prepares me for the next meat dish."Ueda Livestock: Special Long-Term Fed 45-Month-Old Female Cow, "Special Tajima Beef" Charcoal Grilled" This Chateaubriand is packed with flavor. The more you chew, the more delicious it becomes. The Kamonasu from Kamigamo is also perfectly tender."Shizuoka, Hamamatsu: Angel Mask Melon" This high-sugar mask melon is perfectly ripe and exquisite."From Koyama Fruit Orchard: Instant Compote of Toromomo (Peach)" "Grass-Fed Jersey Milk Ice Cream" "Cream Puff and Canelé" "Herbal Tea" Once again, it was a parade of exquisite dishes. I definitely want to visit again. It was a great meal! Less

Had a good meal at Colonial Kitchen & Bar at The Prado in Sandy Springs. It’s a Thai-forward menu, but with other options such as pho and what turned out to be one of my favorite incarnations of my Chinese-American staple, pepper steak.
My favorite dish was the wasabi dumplings. A couple next to us was celebrating their 30th anniversary, and I pretty much have to steal the wife’s quote: “It has so many complex flavors and you can taste all of them.”
My scallop dish was the least dynamic plate I had, but still sneaky-good flavor and high-quality seafood.
It’s somewhat surprising that I’m a huge lifetime fan of pepper steak, since green pepper is a fairly boring vegetable. But the yellow peppers here up the dish, and there’s more black pepper too. It’s slightly different from most versions I’ve had, but in a good way.
Mrs. Grub loves her lettuce rolls, and this one with chicken was among our favorites. Fellow lettuce-wrap fans: Does Sandy Springs have a better version?
Now to the bizarre.
Mrs. Grub had at least half of her pepper steak left and had every intention of taking it home. The busser starts piling dirty dishes over the pepper steak. I’m like, we want to take that home for leftovers. When we brought this bizarre assumption to the waiter, he seemed unfazed.
No human eats out more than I do, but I think this was a first.
I like that @colonialkitchenatlanta has some dishes many of my other Thai faves in Atlanta don’t. A screaming example was the tempura octopus—another sign it’s Thai-forward, not Thai-exclusive.
I won’t let the weird event interfere with giving this Sandy Springs restaurant a thumbs up. Go to Nextdoor for that kind of hissy fit.
Have you eaten at Colonial Kitchen & Bar in Sandy Springs? What did you order, and did the wasabi dumplings blow you away too?
And drop your favorite Thai or Vietnamese spot in Atlanta below. I’m always looking for the next one.

On my day off, I visited Rin, located about a 7 to 8 minute walk from Hamamatsu Station, after making a reservation through OMAKASE about a month ago.I arrived at the restaurant at 11:30 AM for my reservation and was guided to a tatami seating area. There were two other groups of customers already there, making a total of three groups that day. I thought I could order items other than the unadon on the day, but it turned out that only drinks were available.First, I was shown the eel that would be prepared that day, and the cooking began. While waiting for my unadon, I enjoyed chilled black oolong tea and a Japanese radish appetizer. After a while, the grilling of the eel finally started, but since I was seated on tatami, I couldn't see much. I wanted to watch the cooking process, and when I noticed quite a bit of smoke, it seemed the staff misunderstood my concern and came to open the entrance. I apologize for that. Finally, the unadon was served. As I listened to the owner's explanation, I opened the lid to find a generous portion of grilled eel on top. Taking a bite of the eel, I was struck by the savory aroma from the grilling, with the outside being crispy and the inside tender and rich. The sauce was refreshing, allowing the deliciousness of the eel to shine through—it was incredibly tasty. The liver soup was also elegantly flavored and delicious. When my black oolong tea ran out, they kindly offered a refill. Although I didn't take them up on it, I was informed that I could also get a refill on rice, which was a nice service. The unadon was so delicious that I finished it in no time. After settling the bill, the owner kindly saw me off at the entrance as I left.I thoroughly enjoyed the delicious eel.It was a great meal.【Ordered Items】- Hamana Lake Shiko Unadon (JPY 7000)- Black Oolong Tea (JPY 300) Less

The menu has a little bit of everything, from dim sum and dumplings to roasted meats, noodles, and classic regional dishes, so it’s an easy place to visit with a group and share a variety of plates. The cocktail program is also worth exploring if you’re into fun and creative drinks.
I also like the wide open space of the dining room. It has a relaxed feel that makes it just as fitting for a casual dinner with friends as it is for a date night.
Swipe through for a look at what I tried.

The theme of this experience was "sweetness" and "aroma." The way these two elements beautifully unfolded throughout the meal was impressive, with each dish presenting a different layer of fragrance. The highlight was undoubtedly the shark fin, which had an unparalleled presence—truly the best I’ve ever had in my life. The density of umami and the length of the aftertaste were exceptional. The black abalone was also remarkable, showcasing exquisite cooking precision and a wonderful aroma that released a sweetness with every bite.By the end of the meal, I was completely stuffed, yet surprisingly, there was no heaviness left afterward. This was due to the meticulously calculated flow of the entire dining experience.I plan to return after December 2027, and I look forward to experiencing the seasonal expressions then. Less
