The World Famous Corporate Bar & Grill is a post-shift canteen for many working at the convention center and nearby restaurants. Camouflaged by clutter in the back is a grill swiftly slinging po-boys, gumbo and sandwiches that rise above basic tavern fare without getting fancy about it.

Exhibit A: this classic bar burger, not a slim smashburger, not a giant either, served with cheese that’s melted (not a given with bar burgers).

You can taste the grill on the patty and on the bun, which is from @leidenheimerbakingco and much better than the picnic standard.

LenLen is meant to feel like home, a place where you settle in with friends over cocktails that highlight seasonal ingredients from the nearby farmer’s market and dishes that echo the comfort of Thai street food. This spot has a really cool menu of drinks, bites, and noodles all for very approachable proces. Everything on the menu is less than $30, and they offer a happy hour every day they’re open.

My favorite items I tried were the crab Rangoon dip, soft shell crab bao buns, the spicy oil dumplings, the roasted bone marrow pho, their Mala stir fry, their miso ramen, and their ube banana pudding. The ube banana pudding, in particular, was such a unique dessert, I’ll definitely will be back at the bar just to order that! Honestly SO GOOD!

【伊之瀬】
ビジュアルに惚れて、構成力に唸る

新宿駅南口、喧騒の街を少しだけ離れた先に、静かに佇む『伊之瀬』。木の温もりを湛えた落ち着いた店構えに、ふと“ただ者じゃない感”を覚える。調べてみれば、やはり納得。この店は「らぁめん小池」グループが手がける9店舗目。代表・水原裕満氏率いる株式会社イノセンスによる新店舗であり、若きラーメンクリエイターの感性が詰まった一軒なのだ。「伊之瀬」の店名も社名に由来するのであろう。

看板メニューは「特上昆布水つけ麺」。しなやかに整えられた麺線の上に、チャーシューのみがぽん、と重ねられる。その潔さがむしろ美しい。味玉も海苔も柚子もない──ただチャーシューと麺、そして昆布水。その静けさが、逆に期待を高めてくれる。中細ストレート麺は、つややかで啜り心地がよく、昆布水のぬめりと旨みが麺そのものの個性を引き立てる。まずは藻塩で、麺そのものの香りと旨みを確かめる──その導入がすでに洗練されている。

そこに続くのは、驚くほど多彩な“つけ汁”の世界。王道の「魚介スープ」は香り高く、つけ麺の基礎力を感じさせる一杯。そこに「東京クラシック」と銘打たれた、甘酸と胡椒が効いたスープが加わると、一転してノスタルジーの風が吹く。「冷やし豆乳担担」は、まろやかな胡麻の香りと程よいスパイスが中毒性を生む。そして、「なめこおろし」の冷製スープは清涼感の極み。しかも、それぞれに専用のトッピングが添えられており、単なる味変ではなく、構成美としての完成度がある。

箸が止まらぬまま、気がつけば麺が足りない……と思わせるほどのバリエーション。だが安心を。ここでは大盛りも替え玉も快く応じてくれる。企画性の高さとビジュアルの美しさ、そして味の奥行き。インバウンド客も多く見かけるのは、この完成度に世界が気づき始めているからだろう。多様性の街・新宿に、またひとつラーメンの新たな旗が立った。ご馳走様です。
