Someone asked me the other day whether eating at Japan’s top-ranked restaurants—first, second, third, and so on—ever gets tiring. Do you eventually reach a point where beauty itself feels repetitive?
I told them I don’t think of it that way anymore.
Lately, eating feels less like chasing pleasure and more like practice. The sort of practice where you show up regularly, not to show off, but to see if you’re still paying attention.
If December needed a metaphor, I’d say it’s like working through the first movement of Ravel’s Piano Concerto in G. You already know where your fingers are supposed to go. That part isn’t the challenge. The challenge is that every time you play it, you’re in a slightly different mood, your breathing is off by a fraction, your patience is better—or worse. Somehow, it turns into a new performance anyway.
Restaurants are like that. The dish may be the same, but the diner never is. On a good day, you notice something you missed last time. On a bad day, you notice yourself missing it.
That’s not fatigue.
That’s just paying attention—again.

今天，有朋友這樣問我：總是在吃日本排名第一、第二、第三的頂級餐廳，會不會有一天，連美味本身都顯得乏味？

可每一次彈奏，情緒卻總會悄悄偏移。
同一首曲子，因為當天的呼吸、身體的溫度、
還有心裡對世界的理解不同，便生出新的層次。
飲食亦然。菜色或許沒有改變，
改變的，是坐在桌前的那個人。
當我們願意在重複之中，
依然保持好奇、耐心與敬意，
那麼美味就不會疲乏，
它只會，慢慢地，走得更深。

Two new burgers at @burgerandbeyond London's number one burger restaurant.

First of all, THE CHRISTMAS BURGER
Southern fried turkey thigh, sausage & stu�ffing patty, baconaise, shredded cabbage & brussel sprout slaw, red onion & cranberry jam, demi-brioche bun. It's so good, best Christmas burger I've had in London. The dipping turkey gravy is outstanding.

Second one, PICANTE DELUXE
Our signature dry age beef patty, double American cheese, smashed black pudding, habanero harissa glaze, jalapeño slaw, fermented red chilli mayo, demi brioche bun. Juicy, spicy and absolutely delicious. The addition of black pudding is right up my street. Perfect burger

Suite 200 in Crabapple: Potential, But, But…

Our recent visit to @suite200grille in Crabapple was much like our first visit: some good, some swings and misses. Having previously dined here, we were intrigued by the owner, Anthony's decision to incorporate Italian influences into the menu, inspired by their successful restaurant in Blue Ridge.

Appetizers & Entrees
We started with the cheesesteak egg rolls. The presentation was inviting with cheese sprinkled on top. The egg rolls were crispy, meaty, and flavorful. It was the fave item in two trips here. However, they could have been served hotter for that perfect bite.
For the main course, my wife chose here standards Caesar salad and chicken parmesan, while I opted for the chicken piccata. The quality of the ingredients are there; the pasta was notably good, and the freshly grated cheese added a delightful touch. While they didn’t blow our minds, they delivered pretty good taste, making them a reliable choice for locals.

Service & Ambiance
Our server, Braden, was a highlight of the evening. His friendly demeanor and hustle were commendable despite being clearly understaffed. Unfortunately, the management's focus seemed skewed. The manager was noticeably attentive to a VIP table, spending extensive time with them, while other tables, like ours, could have benefited from her support.

Overall Impression
Suite 200 has potential but staffing issues hold it back. If you're in the area, it's worth a visit for the solid food and the hope the leadership improves. But I know of one four-top that got impeccable service. Problem is the restaurant had several other tables occupied.

They even have fresh gelato and sorbetto. With their favs being the mango and the kala jamun. So smoooth 🍨 🥤
