@mrshrimp504 built his name by turning up at customers’ doors with orders of fresh seafood.

During the dark days of the pandemic, his deliveries were a bright spot for many. The food was delicious; the bounce of his personality was uplifting.

Now the customers come to his door, and it’s a new one with a restaurant location in Marrero — 5100 Lapalco Blvd.

This counter service restaurant is centered on boiled seafood, and crawfish are the star item right now.

Mr. Shrimp’s own branded boil mix, dubbed “Throw It in the Pot,” brings a robust spice without being spicy hot. The spice accentuates the sweet-savory balance of the shellfish itself.

There’s a lot more on the menu now — here’s th crab claws, salmon bites and redfish royale over crabcakes.

And late hours too, open til midnight Friday and Saturday

Korean meets Italian at @sono_nyc, and Sechul Yang has been building toward this his whole career.

Gramercy Tavern, Maialino, Oiji Mi, Ddobar. Over a decade of cooking in some of the best kitchens in New York before opening something of his own. The name means “I am” in Italian, and that’s exactly what this place is. His Korean upbringing, his Italian training, all of it on one menu.

Handmade pasta with fermented sauces. Rigatoni with guanciale and black bean. Bottarga with nori and pollock roe. Glad I got to shoot this one early. 📸

This AYCE rice cake-focused restaurant offers all the shapes and flavors you could dream of (our favorites were the cheese and sweet potato!) plus a make-your-own sauce bar, an array of appetizers and sides, and plenty of meats and veggies to round out your pot! Don’t leave without getting a soft serve swirl either. 🌶️🍦

藤沢の街並みに映えるブルーの外観。その清涼感の奥に確かな熱量を潜ませる『うずとかみなり』。2022年3月創業。屋号に掲げるのは、一杯の中に渦巻く情熱と雷鳴のような衝撃を。そのレベルを目指したラーメンを出し続け、結果として藤沢で確固たる人気を築いている一軒だ。

月曜は限定のみ。王道狙いだったので残念ではあったが、気を取り直して「お出汁中華そば」。結果的に、この一杯でも十分に店の実力は伝わってきた。丼顔は実に端正。澄み切った琥珀色のスープ、整然と並ぶ九条葱、艶やかな味玉、凛と立つ海苔。視覚の段階で完成度が伝わる。

スープを啜る。豚や煮干し、鰹節などを重ねた出汁が幾重にも広がる。旨味は厚いが濁らない。無化調らしい透明感を保ちながら、味の密度は十分だ。後半に生姜が立ち上がり、全体を引き締める。その入り方が実に巧みで、出汁の余韻を壊さず、輪郭だけを整えていく。油の量も計算され、軽やかさとコクが均衡する。気づけばスープを飲み干している。

麺もうまい。多加水の手揉み麺は、もちりとした弾力と滑らかな啜り心地を両立。小麦の甘みを感じさせながら、スープを的確に抱え込む。持ち上げは強すぎず弱すぎず、出汁と拮抗する関係を築く。どちらかが主役に寄り切らない。この均衡こそが、この一杯の完成度を支えている。

そこに合わせた「胡椒めし」がまた憎い。炊き立ての米に黒胡椒を効かせただけの潔い構成だが、これがスープと抜群に合う。まずはそのまま、米の甘みと胡椒のキレを楽しむ。そして終盤、残した出汁をひと匙落とす。米がスープを吸い込み、出汁の旨味が輪郭を持って立ち上がる。

サイドメニューも抜かりない。チャーシューの延長線上にある「四万十ポークの肉汁焼売」は、その肉質の良さを別角度から提示する一皿だ。ふわりと蒸し上げられた薄皮の中に、四万十ポーク特有の甘い脂と密度のある赤身の旨味を閉じ込める。箸で持ち上げた瞬間から柔らかく、噛めばじゅわりと肉汁が広がる。

そして最後に触れておきたいのが店主の存在だ。イケメンである。だが印象に残るのは顔立ちだけではない。鍋前に立つ姿勢、麺上げの高さ、丼を差し出す角度。動きに無駄がなく、整っている。接客もいい。声のトーンは柔らかく、距離感は自然体。その丁寧さが店全体の空気を作っている。所作が整い、味が整い、空間が整う。だから丼も整う。ラーメンも人もイケメン。見た目の話ではなく、芯が通っているという意味でのイケメンだ。藤沢で支持を集める理由は、その総合力にある。ご馳走様でした。
