This week, my @d_magazine colleagues and I threw dinners at both locations of @writtenbytheseasons to celebrate Dallas Veggie Week, our weeklong series about vegetarian and vegan cooking in Dallas, fresh produce, and the diversity of meatless dining in a city that is still falsely labeled "meat and potatoes." Written by the Seasons proved our point with a spectacular menu celebrating all kinds of veggies. Red kuri squash in a spicy curry; a marvelous beetroot carpaccio that won over at least two guests who thought they hated beets; roasted root veg (super tender turnips!) and terrific lentils; two dessert choices. (I attended both dinners so I tried em both. What a life.)

It was a joy to meet our readers and talk about dining out in Dallas - by the way, fewer than half our guests were vegetarian. The idea that everyone in this town WANTS steak every night is another myth, busted. We got to taste some dishes I'm hoping might appear on a WBTS menu soon. And we at D Mag got to test a format you might see more of next year. We're hoping 2026 will bring more sit-down dinner experiences for our readers. Have we reached peak caviar? Over the past decade, diners in Singapore and Hong Kong have seen the same parlor trick on repeat: cold, thin noodles slicked with enough truffle oil to give a petrol station a run for its money. The one at @louise.hkg is not a parlor trick, nor is the version at its (debatable) progenitor, @gunthers_sg . Both have their virtues, and though Gunther’s has its formula down, Louise’s — like its sister, @claudinerestaurant — leans on shio kombu, and the pasta’s sandier texture clings better to the heady sauce.

Yes, on one occasion, the angel pasta here was a notch past al dente, but it delivers the pleasures that many other dishes at Louise do. Consider the chicken, which, among its brethren of large-format lookalikes across Hong Kong, still stands tall: a yellow breed brined for four days, wearing a handsome, bronzed cap of a proper roast; the showy tableside carve; and rice dewy with fat from all the trimmings and cracklings. Consider, too, the plates you might skip past: sweet, confit red pepper with burrata and good olive oil; grilled broccoli with a rich grenobloise, sharpened by green chile, that makes a case for more vegetable-forward mains; and a tall île flottante crowned with pistachios and hazelnuts — a dessert that ought to appear on more French menus, old-school be damned.

There are fussier detours — namely a manicured onion tart over a weighty vin jaune — but two meals (dinner in the main room, followed by lunch at the more casual terrace) convinced this jaded critic that upstairs and downstairs can meet when the basics are fussed over, too. The butter is an addictive amalgam of sour cream, butter, yogurt, soy, and plenty of seeds; the salad features a comely, crisp wedge cloaked in a knockout dressing of hazelnut, walnut, and olive oils bound with lemon. Quietly one of South Jersey’s cheesesteak powerhouses, not just a breakfast stop. Thicker-cut beef, perfectly grilled, on a soft but sturdy Liscio’s Bakery roll. Not as thick as Donkey’s or Lorenzo’s, not as finely chopped as many.
Tight seating, aging strip mall, massive flavor payoff. Locals already know—travelers, take note.

Super excited about all the new fall menus dropping like autumn leaves around town. Up today: @lolarose_mtp, flounder seared golden brown atop a fall vegetable chowder and a superbly tangy chicken picatta pizza, kicked off with a turmeric-accented Golden Gimlet and the (not new but still brilliant) Perfect Stranger.

Lunch at @marugameuk Oxford Street

You need to try this! Tokyo Hot Honey chicken rice, is a dish featuring crispy karaage chicken in a spicy-sweet sauce served over steamed rice, chilli and spring onions. It's so tasty! @marugameuk also do fantastic tempura prawns and chicken gyozas. And their matcha donuts are excellent too. One of my favourite fast food restaurants in london.

Lunch at @holy.smokesbarbecue

Found my new favourite BBQ spot in London this week! First of all the new Fireville Smash burger is stunning. Spiced in-house sauce, Double smash beef patties, American cheese, diced onions, romaine leaf and gherkin in a toasted brioche.
Pulled-rib Burger, Smoked short ribs, pulled, with house-made sauce, pickles, gem lettuce and American cheese in lightly toasted brioche.
This had so much flavour, delicious. Next up was the Brisket Slices, Sliced smoked brisket, 200 grams, served with sweet red chillies, a side of smoked BBQ sauce and a delicate sprinkle of Maldon salt for the perfect finish. This was incredible, some of the best brisket I've ever had, loved the sweet chilli's. And finally the 7ish Hours Smoked Short Ribs (400gm) British breed short ribs smoked for roughly 7 hours with a side of homemade pickled cucumber and coffee bbq sauce on the side. Wow this was insanely good. The bone just pulled out, so tender and the flavours were incredible. I'd definitely recommend check this place out people!!!
