If “hidden gem” ever rang true, it’s here. Meet Silk Road, tucked inside the Courtyard Houston Rice University. This stunning spot serves refined Cantonese dim sum with warm Thai hospitality, led by Michelin-trained Chef Insingha (from the legendary Yu Ting Yuan + Nan Bei in Bangkok).

Faves: crispy shrimp cheung fun (hands down the best thing I’ve eaten this year), molten lava buns (a must at any dim sum spot—and especially here), mushroom bao (is it a mushroom? is it a bao? it’s adorably delicious), and the sugar-crusted BBQ pork bun you need to try. No exaggeration—everything I tasted was incredible. And their house-made chili oil? I wanted to take a bottle home.

I went with their chrysanthemum tea for my visit, but I’ve heard the craft cocktails are just as impressive as the food.

Been seeing this bakery all over Instagram, and I’m glad I made the drive to visit. This family-owned bakery and cafe offers everything from buttery, flaky croissants made with real French butter to delicious pastries (not too sweet!), fresh bread, sandwiches, and gluten-free treats like the Pistachio Queen Cake and Chocolate Brownie (both amazing). Everything is made in-house daily. They also serve traditional Turkish coffee, baklava, and the viral Dubai chocolate. Don’t miss it!
