Haggis amongst us!

Awful good melange of offal all wrapped up in a lamb stomach and shot through with spice, escorted by tatties and neeps (potatoes and turnips), and a suggested whisky pairing (Glengoyne 12). Suggestion taken.

Plus cullen skink, a smoked fish chowder with an excellent name.

Tucking into the tradition at @howiesrestaurant in Edinburgh

This one is in a stately Georgian room after a climb up Calton Hill for a look at the Edinburgh landscape of extinct volcanoes and endless stories

Also, from a menu spotted at a different spot, a takeaway shop, and I really hope Jumbo Haggis is the rugby nickname for some Scottish prop out there

Tried for a res at Golden Diner but we were too late, so we ended up at their sister restaurant Golden HOF and it worked out perfectly.

The Mini Honey Butter Pancakes were amazing. Glad they were on the smaller side because we got to try a few other things too. But their pancakes were the best.. thick, super fluffy, crisp golden edges, and warm honey butter that melts into every layer. Sweet, rich, soft, buttery, fluffy, I’m still dreaming about them 🥞✨

Ikigai, 生き甲斐, means a sense of purpose in Japanese. A reason for living. Spend one meal here and you’ll understand why they chose that name.

What makes this place even more special is that it’s a non-profit. Every dollar you spend goes toward fighting food insecurity. They’ve helped rescue over a million pounds of food! Not only are you eating well, but you’re doing good at the same time.

This was my second visit, and there’s something really cool about watching a restaurant find its stride. Ikigai has done exactly that.

The menu is a New York expression of Kaiseki, rooted in Japanese technique but shaped by the seasons and ingredients of this city. The chawanmushi with cauliflower, aged cheese, and truffle was quietly one of the best bites of the night. The Wagyu with ramp, myoga, and tomato was another standout. And the Kegani rice set to close was the kind of ending that makes you sit back and appreciate everything that came before it.

If you haven’t been, go. And if you have, it’s time to go back.

@berimbau_nyc’s Midtown location is an oasis in the bustling area, offering a dimly lit, stylish dining room and a curated menu of modern Brazilian dishes. We loved the creamy and flavorful Beef Stroganoff as well as the seafood-rich Moqueca, and will be back for the Yuca Cake for dessert!
