For a restaurant (not wine bar) that prides itself on a killer wine list, @circlwinehouse seriously does us a solid with the food.
The squid, ‘nduja and morcilla number is something I can’t and won’t shut up about!
Glowing a bright fluro orange you’ll need sunnies, 😎 it’s a knockout dish.
And the punches keep rolling with the beetroot eclair, the smoked eel tart, the duck…

🌯THE BEST SHAWARMA IN RALEIGH🌯

Our Raleigh foodie today has been an amazing one so far and we’ve found a GEM called @albarakamarketandgrill that literally has one of the best shawarmas we have ever tried! I mean seriously this place really rivals some of the OG shawarma spots in Houston and Dallas! Everyone has been raving about how good this spot is and it truly has not let down!

We got the beef shawarma the original style. Make sure to get the sauce with garlic and spicy mixed. It makes the sauce soo much better!

This is a grocery store along with a restaurant! Make sure to bookmark this spot for your next trip to Raleigh!

Also major shout out to our friends at @halaleatsnc for their amazing recs and company! Truly an awesome resource to utilize anytime you’re in that area!

I’ve written about Tresind Studio many times. Probably more than any other restaurant, but I’ve not written about it like this.

I was very kindly #invited to the launch of the revised Rising India menu. For those who do not know, Rising India is Tresind Studio’s tasting menu that divides India into five regions. Chef Himanshu and the team explore the culinary traditions with each region but put their own contemporary spin on regional cuisine.

I could tell you about each of the dishes in the 18-course tasting menu—and perhaps I should. However, you could read the review that I wrote about the restaurant recently which is available through the link in my profile (together with a photo diary about this current menu).

The most recent piece that I published on my Substack is more of an ode to Tresind Studio and their team. I’ve watched this kitchen changing and grow over the last few years. They were nights when the restaurant was practically empty and I sat watching a team of consummate professionals continue to serve a menu while the tables around me were cancelled. These were the bad old days.

Nowadays, you would probably struggle to get a reservation. Two Michelin stars, number 13 in world 50 Best and number two in the Middle East North Africa’s 50 Best will do that to you.

But so does word-of-mouth and the near evangelical drum beat of a few die hards like myself who firmly believe that what the kitchen is doing here is unique and worthy of your attention.

As I said in the piece, one of the ways I look back on a restaurant and the evening I spent there is would I care if the restaurant closed? There are supposedly over 13,000 restaurants in Dubai and given this volume, the answer has to be no.

But I would miss Tresind Studio deeply and the void it would leave behind would be visible from space.

For this dessert obsessive, cold weather is synonymous with apple cake, and the one I enjoyed this weekend on the @lovechildrestaurant menu definitely falls into the Standard-Setter category. It’s a go-to cake for French home cooks, one of those classic recipes that easily transforms familiar ingredients into something memorable and delicious. The baker at Lovechild really gets it, packing the tender, not-too-sweet cake with tart-ish apples that retain a bit of their snappy crunch. Crowning touches include a pool of rum sauce — fragrant, not boozy — and cinnamon-infused whipped cream, a gesture for those who equate “apple” with “cinnamon.” The dreamy results are reminiscent of what I would have encountered on the dessert tray at Lucia’s Restaurant, a compliment that ranks pretty high in my Kind Words arsenal. My next baking goal is to replicate this cake. I was also delighted to encounter persimmon. The fruit doesn’t appear on a lot of Midwestern menus, so when it does, I’m all in. There’s a great backstory to this particular salad: the kitchen staffer who prepares Lovechild’s (excellent) pasta has a relative in southern California with a persimmon tree in their yard; that thoughtful, generous soul ships the fruit to the restaurant. Such beauties! They radiate the rich orange-reds of an intense sunset, with a firm, slightly juicy texture and a mellow sweetness. Chef Jay Sparks wisely pairs them with a luscious mozzarella and vividly peppery arugula, finishing with bright pops of mint and crunchy candied pine nuts.
