Located in Karatsu City, this restaurant is a recipient of the Tabelog Award 2026 Bronze. On the second day of my trip to Karatsu, I visited this place for lunch! It was the main event of my trip!I came with two others, including someone I met last summer at Kodan. It was the main event of my trip!I came with two others, including someone I met last summer at Kodan. Thank you for making the reservation! The nearest station is Nijinomatsubara, but I think it's quite difficult to catch a taxi from there, so I recommend taking a taxi from Karatsu Station, which takes about 20 minutes. The restaurant is a 140-year-old traditional house renovated by the owner himself, and with the beautiful summer weather and surrounding scenery, it feels like stepping back in time. Here are the dishes we enjoyed:Omakase Course (JPY 12,000, tax included)[Rating Scale]☆☆☆ Exceptional > ☆☆ Highly Impressive > ☆ Impressive > ◎ Loved It > ○ Liked It > □ Average > △ > × Disliked【Photo ①】Vine Purple Vegetable Ohitashi ◎ The vine purple vegetable had a delightful slimy texture, served at a pleasantly warm temperature! A wonderful start!【Photo ②】Okra Sunomono ○ A refreshing sunomono at a perfect temperature, not too cold! It had a wonderfully gooey texture!【Photo ③】Marinated Yaito Katsuo (Karatsu) ◎ With a moist and smooth texture, the rich sweetness of the fat was present, yet there was no iron-like smell, leaving a beautiful aftertaste!【Photo ④】Narezushi of Kisu (Karatsu) ○ The firm local kisu was paired with simple yet flavorful sushi rice!【Photo ⑤】Asparagus Soup with Fried Sesame Tofu ☆ You could really taste the essence of asparagus, complemented by the crispy, fragrant fried sesame tofu!【Photo ⑥】Grilled Summer Vegetables (Corn, Zucchini, Sweet Long Peppers, Edamame, Mini Tomatoes) ○ Super simple, yet incredibly delicious! It made me appreciate summer vegetables even more!【Photo ⑦⑧】Fried Rock Oysters (Karatsu) ☆ Plump local rock oysters turned into delicious fried oysters! They came with a naturally flavored tartar sauce, but even without it, the rich creaminess of the oysters was delightful!【Photo ⑨】Saga Beef Sukiyaki ◎ Thanks to the well-rendered fat, this Saga beef sukiyaki was incredibly tender and not tiring to eat! I loved the sweetness of the thick onions and the gentle flavor of the broth!【Photo ⑩⑪】Salted Rice Balls from Saga Prefecture ☆ These super simple salted rice balls were amazing! The shine and texture of each grain of rice, along with the perfect amount of salt, left me in awe!【Photo ⑫】Grilled Eggplant Miso Soup ◎ The mild miso soup paired perfectly with the salted rice balls!【Photo ⑬】Rice Balls from Saga Prefecture (with Chirimen Sansho) ◎ The second helping of rice balls came with chirimen sansho! I love the refreshing burst of flavor when the sansho pepper pops in my mouth!【Photo ⑭】Kuzukiri ◎ This kuzukiri, served with just the right amount of not-too-sweet black syrup and soybean flour, was a perfect cool finish to the meal!【Drink ①】New Ginger Ginger Ale (JPY 800, tax included) 【Drink ②】Plum Soda (JPY 800, tax included) 【Drink ③】Green Tea (after the meal)I thoroughly enjoyed dishes that were naturally delicious, leaving a beautiful aftertaste that felt soothing. Besides the food, I was very satisfied with the ambiance, the pleasant service, and the reasonable pricing!Although it's in a somewhat remote location, I would love to visit again in other seasons!Thank you to everyone who joined me!Surprisingly, credit card payments are accepted. The black soybean ice cream was not overly sweet and had a hint of saltiness, making it a perfect finish to the meal.Additionally, the white rice was sweet and had a delightful texture, reflecting the restaurant's commitment to quality. The staff also recommended sake that paired well with the dishes, allowing me to enjoy the meal even more. The interior of the restaurant utilized an old traditional house design, and I could see the kitchen as well. It provided a calm atmosphere that evoked a sense of nostalgia, making it easy to relax and enjoy my meal.I got so caught up in the deliciousness that I forgot to take pictures of some dishes...I believe this restaurant allows you to experience the ingredients of Karatsu and the changing seasons. I look forward to visiting again to enjoy the seasonal variations. Less
The owner has beautifully renovated an old traditional house into a warm and unique space that reflects a strong aesthetic sense through its tools, furnishings, and tableware. The dishes highlight the delicious seasonal ingredients sourced from Karatsu. The squid and Saga beef sukiyaki, as well as the fava bean spring rolls, are unforgettable. The grilled horse mackerel was also delightful. To top it all off, they serve the best salt rice balls. The desserts are delicious too. The overall experience,... More
