“Brown is the color of flavor,” says @frankbrigtsen , so let us count the ways from my last dinner at Brigtsen’s Restaurant.

“Color of Flavor” is the chef’s new cookbook, brought into the world with his passion and backing by @bluerunnerfoods .

Saturday (Aug. 8), @nocca.nola hosts a launch party from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. (600 Homer Plessy Way) where chef will be signing books.

Never been to Brigtsen’s? Start with:

🦐the gumbo and BBQ shrimp with calas (Creole rice fritters)

🐟fish with pecan meunière

🦪the “Shell Beach Diet” seafood platter (not fried, not light either)

🍑and if that peach bread pudding is on special it’s a must (pecan pie otherwise or in addition).

Brunch at Winnie’s 🍳🍹

Winnie’s recently launched a weekend brunch, and we tried it last weekend! It’s really family-friendly during the day so we brought the kids.

What we got: the Biscoff Croissant Cinnamon Roll, Crawfish Pimento Queso, Fried Shrimp Deviled Eggs, Chicken Wings, Perfect Peacemaker Po-Boy, Winn-A-Burger, Pecan Praline Chicken & Waffles, and Catfish & Grits. And their famous Warm Brown Butter Chocolate Chip Cookies to go. For drinks, we tried the Cherry Limeade and Key Lime Pie cocktails, both made virgin for us. Everything was fantastic.

One tip: get there early! We arrived just a couple minutes before 11 AM and there were already two tables filled.

The food was excellent, and the service and atmosphere were great too. Definitely a fun one for a weekend brunch with friends or family. There was a DJ setting up as we were finishing our meal.

If you were a fan of Netflix’s Culinary Class Wars, this was a pretty cool dinner to experience.

Chef @sung.shim welcomed Chef @chef_jisunjoung to @gui.nyc for a one-night-only Four Hands collaboration that brought two chefs from the series together in New York.

I’ve always enjoyed these kinds of collaborations because they give chefs the opportunity to cook alongside one another and create something that’s only around for a single evening. It’s one of the things that makes New York’s dining scene so much fun.

It was also great to see so many familiar faces from the city’s restaurant community gathered around one table to celebrate the occasion.

I was invited to a precious seat at Ginza Shinohara. The owner, Mr. Shinohara, hails from Shiga. He became independent at the young age of 26 and quickly gained popularity in Shiga before opening his restaurant in Tokyo.In addition to Japanese cuisine, he embodies the satoyama culture of his hometown, Shiga. This region, centered around Lake Biwa, is characterized by its proximity to mountains and fields. The ingredients used in his dishes, including wild vegetables, seafood, and chicken, reflect the original landscapes of the area.The sweetfish sushi, which you wouldn't typically find at a sushi restaurant, offers a taste that beautifully merges Japanese cuisine with sushi. The delicately fried abalone with a light batter and the rare eel sukiyaki allowed me to fully enjoy the flavors of the ingredients.I look forward to the day I can visit again. Less
