Master Tanaka-san first opened Chūka Soba Benten in Takadanoba in 1995. The shop quickly become beloved with a legion of devout fans, by the mid 2000s lines of 1-2 hours were a daily occurrence. Partially due to deterioration of the building, Tanaka-san announced the shop would close in 2014. On the final day of operation, the first customers were said to have started lining up from 9pm the day before. After a two year hiatus in which Tanaka-san spent time recovering from an illness, Benten reopened in Narimasu, Tokyo. He says one day he will pass operations over to his son. Lunch only, 11am-2:30pm. 11 Seats. Since September 18th, 2016. Less
中華そば べんてん (Benten in Narimasu)
Benten, a ramen shop with a history dating back to its original location in Takadanobaba, has a large volume of noodles and affordable prices. Mr. Yuma, a nerd with a unique collection of Ramen Rally stickers, encourages customers to visit the shop and collect the elusive silver or gold version. The shop offers different noodle serving sizes and a Taishoken style tsukemen bowl, which some customers find underwhelming. Despite its popularity, Benten... More

Recommended bowl: Tokyo legend
This legendary Tokyo ramen shop opened in Takadanobaba in 1995, where it developed a cult following with long lines daily. In mid-2014 the shop closed (with 4+ hour waits during its final days), only to reopen again in 2016 in Narimasu, Itabashi-ku. The soup is made from pork and gyokai, with choice of the standard and recommended shoyu tare or shio, also popular. Salty, slightly sweet and slightly tangy, with options for spicy too. In some ways the soup is reminiscent of Higashi-Ikebukuro Taishōken, but unique enough for many to consider this its very own 'Benten' style. Noodles are house-made. Still run by the original master Tanaka-san. Ramen and tsukemen are both available, both equally popular. Less
